Entebbe, Uganda - 17th October 2008
By: Tine1969
On our last day in Africa we went to the zoo in Entebbe. Entebbe is close to the capital Kampala which is crowded, noisy and sometimes a bit dangerous. We all did want to stay in Kampala longer, therefore the zoo was a great alternativ.
I saw many animals there - like zebras, chimpanzees, antilopes, rhinos and many others. And I also visited Lake Victoria.
I like the photo of the Chimpanzee very much - sorry there was no chance to take a photo with me and him together, but there wasn't any place to sit alone - therefore I watch the situation on my host's arm!
After the visit we went to the airport and we went home, back to Germany...

After the weeks in Africa, my host had a lot of work to do and therefore she had no time for longer trips. But we went to the small lake in Alt-Kaster very often and on one day it was really cold and freezing...

What a pity - once a year there is the St. Claus Market in Alt-Kaster - and what happened, we had a heavy rain during the whole day. Therefore it wasn't possible to take many photos.

Look, what we found in front of a house in Alt-Kaster - they don't have a Santa Claus here, but they have a Santa Dog...

Yesterday we went on a walk through Alt-Kaster again, because my host wanted to show me the special Advent calendar in this little village. Every day from 1. December to 24. December children of a school class or a kindergarden group from Bedburg are decorating house windows, one per day.
Look at the following windows - I think they are really nice, aren't they?

Wow - at the end of the year we have some snow. My host told me that they don't have snow very often. Therefore it was great to be here when the snow came... - because then we were able to have a short snowball fight.

And - at the beginning of 2009 it was snowing again. My host took me to her working place and during the lunch break we went outside for a walk around the Media Harbour with the Gehry Building, the Parliament, the harbour itself, the river Rhine and of course with snow.

The weather was cold and sunny and we wet on a walk again. This time we went on the "Wolfgangstieg", which a a steep small path with steps from time to time. At the end you are on the top of the area and you have a nice view around it.

Essen Steele, Germany - 23rd January 2009
By: BlackCat
That’s us in front of the pitman statue in Steele. Pitmen were really good for the city Essen, because they had a lot of coal mines here. Now there are only a few ones left and no one is still working, but this statue should remind you of the pitmen that did the work to make Essen to such a big city like it is now.

Essen Margarethenh, Germany - 28th January 2009
By: BlackCat
Today we went with BlackCat when she visited her boyfriend at work. He is working in a company that is in the Margarethenhöhe.
The Margarethenhöhe is a jewel of the city. It is one of the loveliest examples of the German garden city idea. This area of the city is idyllic and was donated in 1906 by Margarethe Krupp on the occasion of her daughter Bertha’s wedding. Maximum two storeys high, comfortably equipped flats for workers and employees were developed following the plans of architect Georg Metzendorf. Even though the area gives a feeling of unity, no house is the same. Various design elements such as bow fronts and hedgerows, arched gables, plaster and natural stone foundations were used to give homes individual appearances. The estate has been under historical preservation since 1987.
It was really nice there but it was still dark, so the photos aren’t so good.
