Hi out there!
Great News – I will go on holidays! This time without RikeH and Dicker Kumpel – I am a little nervous. But I am Murph the Brave!!!
First I said Good-Bye to Dicker Kumpel. He told me the great News – that I will go to Olgamaus, but I will come back before Christmas. So it is a real holiday – with coming back home to RikeH. I am so glad.
Then I got a big hug by the Others.
World – I am coming!
Greetings
Murph

Hi Mummy,
I arrived in Remscheid today. The postman brought Hippoda and me to Katja's workplace.
Because the weather is so great, Katja wants to show us around in the afternoon.

Solingen, Schloss Burg, Germany - 25th October 2009
By: olgamaus
Hi Mummy,
we took a walk today to a medieval castle. Medieval - what does that mean? In space we don't know this word.
We parked the car close to the River Wupper.
From here you have to choose: Walking uphill to visit the castle or taking the chair lift? What a question to ask! Of course I want to take the chair lift. Aliens prefer using vehicles, not their feet.
Unfortunately Katja did not cooperate.Okay, we walked to the castle, of course through the forrest.
An outlook pavilion! That means a little rest.
Nice overview, I must admit.
I can see the car down there!
The ceiling of the pavilion is decorated with the city arms of the surrounding towns, so here is also the city arms of Remscheid.
We reached the castle than.
In the castle courtyard you can find souvenir shops and shops whose owners are doing an "old" handcraft. For example someone makes soap, another makes brushes, then you can buy things that were used by knights for the kids, like swords and helmets.
One of the shop owners is selling blue companions.
Schloss Burg was built in 1133 by Count Adolf I von Berg on a hill above the river Wupper. That's why this region is called "Bergisches Land". Many people believe that it's name refers to the landscape with hills and valleys. (For those who do not speak German: The German word for mountain or hill is "Berg", so many people think that the name "Bergisches Land" means "land with many hills" )
About a hundred years later it was enlarged by Count Engelberg II von Berg. This is the guy on the horse in the courtyard.
In Thirty Years War (17th century) many parts of the castle were destroyed. It was rebuilt then, but it was used for industrial purposes for many years. In the end of the 19th century they began to rebuild it as it appears today.
This is the former chief of this pretty estate.
This is the powder tower.
Again the chair lift - again I was not allowed to take a ride with it.
Some artwork ...
One more nice place for a rest.
Ice-cream would be a great idea ...
We left the castle than ...
... and walked back to the car, but not beeline. No, again we walked along meadows with large furry animals ... and farms ...
... and through another forrest.
They even have a school in the forrest, a "Waldschule".
Those blossoms feel like they were made of wax.
Okay, pretty landscape.
In the background you can see the castle, situated on this hill.
Lucy K. told me to enjoy the view of all those pretty old houses, but I had only eyes for the car which was parked on the other bank of the river.
Next to the car I saw an information board with a map of the vicinity.
(Shush! This was a nice trip, although I had to walk for hours once more).
Bye
