Remscheid, Muengsten Bridge, Germany - 12th June 2009

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
in the afternoon we decided to take a walk to Muengsten Bridge, which is the highest railway bridge of Germany.

To get there we had to walk through the town, than through a forrest and than downhill, also through a forrest.

Here we are still in a housing area, but it is already looking more rural hiere.

Katja told us that Muengsten Bridge is overspanning the valley of river Wupper connecting the citiesof  Remscheid and Solingen. It is 465 m long and 107 m high. It was finished in 1897.

We reached river Wupper first.

A leisure park is built underneath the bridge. On weekends you can see hundreds of peple here, relaxing in the sun.

The sun came out sometimes, so we were relaxing also.

Hi Mummy,

in the late afternoon we took a walk to the municipal park. We had to walk for only a few minutes to reach a really pretty little park, the one in front of the police station.

I saw lavender here.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2475/3622818032_8a3df9cb3e.jpg?v=0

We went to the municipal park than. Here you can see a pond with ducks and turtles. Katja told me that the turtles former pets, abandoned here by people who did not want to take care for  them any longer. I'm sure that also frogs are living here.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2426/3622001037_cc07a79b84.jpg?v=0

This memorial is dedicated to the dead of several earlier wars before World War I.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2447/3621998145_2de0a0ffcf.jpg?v=0

From here you have a great overview across some outskirts of Remscheid and those of the neighbour city Wuppertal. Katja told me that they have the worldwide only Schwebebahn (Suspended Monorail) there, I hope we'll go there one day.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3400/3622816472_946ebc856d.jpg?v=0

We went to the house of Katja's sister-in-law than to have a talk. Sportie, Penny-Bo and me were playing in the garden in the meantime. Can you spot us?

I met Bertie, the friendly Entlebucher Mountain Dog.

Hi Mummy,
Katja showed me arount the town when we went home in her lunch break.

Here you can see the main entrance of the shopping mall, in the background there is the tower of the city hall.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3405/3635440617_eaffc8842a.jpg?v=0

On our way home we have to walk through an alley with linden trees on both sides of the street.

This photo is taken close to my current home.

After work in the evening we had to walk to the local court to drop a letter regarding a lawsuit with a deadline today into the court's mailbox. This mailbox will be closed at midnight. Each letter which will be dropped into the mail box will arrive at the court on the due date.

This is the old building of the local court, not so pretty at the moment with the scaffolding around it.

This is the mailbox.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3373/3636255310_488f67f7f5.jpg?v=0

Our letter is safe in the mailbox now.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2458/3635439461_41d9c29d8f.jpg?v=0

What a pity that the court is already closed. I would have loved to take a look inside.

Hi Mummy,
we took a walk in the afternoon, although it is really hot and humid. I like it - a bit like home  :D

We went to the district Hasten, which is one of the oldest districts of the municipal area. You can find many pretty old houses here.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2623/3681255980_55f35da3d2.jpg?v=0

I even found a pond here. I wanted to hop into it for a little bit cooling but Katja did not let me. She said my next host would not like to receive a foul-smelling frog.

at home, Remscheid, Germany - 23rd July 2009

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
we have baked bread today. It was really easy. All you need is

750 g wheat flour
about 400 ml warm water
1 1/2 tablespoons of salt
1 1/2 packages dry yeast
1 tablespoon of olive oil

Baking: 35 - 40 minutes, 220°C

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2566/3756773315_16f3fe8688.jpg?v=0

First we mixed flour and yeast, than we added the other ingredients and kneaded the dough for about 5 minutes.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3448/3752800733_88d8782652.jpg?v=0

The dough was covered than with a cloth. It had to rise for about 30 minutes.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2538/3752799949_153dfe557a.jpg?v=0

We shaped two loafs of bread.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2562/3752799505_8cc3b52671.jpg?v=0

The loafs of bread had to rise once more for half an hour under a cloth.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3492/3752800977_662ffd9f31.jpg?v=0

Than we brushed them with a mixture of water and olive oil. We put rosemary on one loaf of bread.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3487/3753595550_507e10b8ba.jpg?v=0

They were ready for the oven than. The breads had to bake for 35 minutes.
Finished!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2631/3753596084_1bb28c16d3.jpg?v=0

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3443/3753595376_00eee116f5.jpg?v=0

Our selfmade bread was really delicious!

Remscheid, Germany - 4th August 2009

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,
when Katja returned home from her work place at 18:30 p.m. She called her friend Erika and asked her  if she also wanted to take a walk. Yes, a short walk was ok for Erika. So they decided to meet on the Werkzeugtrasse (Route of Tools).

I have been here before, but never in such great weather.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2477/3792365731_cb0f37b960.jpg

Here are patterns of wrenches stamped into the tarmac.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2456/3793181346_da2d590c48.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2543/3792374929_237e382095.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3540/3792365921_1f11023ca2.jpg

We met Erika than and left the Werkzeugtrasse to walk downhill into Morsbachtal (Morsbach Valley).

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3494/3793181594_ed97ed5ccf.jpg

I saw this great sign of an advertising and signaging company. This green guy seemed to smile at me :D

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3546/3793181674_e1a6c742a1.jpg

We reached the valley than and crossed the road here. We walked on the other side of the creek than, which already belongs to Wuppertal.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2600/3793180672_9753b0dd85.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2657/3792365249_9c0620fe65.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3457/3793180842_0fe58d8225.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2614/3792365515_e1263dbffa.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3474/3793190520_303869983b.jpg

We left the valley here and walked back uphill to get home.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2423/3793181150_33eeea8378.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3506/3792374651_f02e677d92.jpg

From here we had to walk uphill for more than 40 minutes, but we ersted in a beer garden. So the "short walk" turned into a walk about two hours long and another hour sitting in the beer garden.

Solingen, Germany - 6th September 2009

By: olgamaus

Hi Mummy,

we took a long walk today in the neighbour city Solingen. We started our tour in Solingen-Unterburg, which is one of the oldest districts of Solingen. You can find many old houses here.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2657/3896749776_fe4c7ea8a3.jpg

I went with Katja, Erika and Baby Lican today. I met a relative here :D

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2490/3896749928_ace9d3647f.jpg

We walked along River Wupper the whole time.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2620/3896750070_3a7dd3ae2d.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2527/3896750230_69815e08d6.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2462/3896750396_63d4cc9f60.jpg

This thing was originally used at the nearby Sengbach-Talsperre (Sengbach-dam).

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2464/3896750682_42579eaa63.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2551/3895972483_f232bd5bc3.jpg

This is a historic building, Balkhauser Kotten. A museum is situated here.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3433/3896750942_949620a981.jpg

We reached a hamlet called Balkhausen. It is a rather rural district.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2558/3896751044_7cfdb9d66b.jpg

They have nice old timber-framed houses here.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2606/3896751172_5b7d2689f9.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2522/3895973017_346b13dec0.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2661/3895973235_9e694e09b4.jpg

We walked through another forrest and met River Wupper again.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3436/3895973373_cce41a1d73.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2521/3895973491_5ae0908281.jpg

After hours of walking (about 14 km) we reached Wipperkotten, a historical grindery which is still in use. It was open for visitors today. Visitors were allowed to take a knife with them, for the  grinder to grind it. Of course Katja brought her favourite knif with her.

Wipperkotten was built as a grindery in the early 1600's and it is the last existing twin building of formerly 26 grinding sheds at the lower river Wupper. Two undershot waterwheels are spinning between the historical buildings. This building complex is under protection of historical monuments since 1955.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2633/3896753678_afc08e77e7.jpg

Of course we had a look inside the buildings.

This is the axis of one of the waterwheels.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3426/3895975023_739fcdfd26.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2612/3895973753_53dab5e065.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2596/3896752284_f1a3a3e01e.jpg

This is today's workplace of the grinder.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2468/3895974207_5958408535.jpg

The grinder is preparing the belt grinder machine ...

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2492/3896752622_4e46a60dbc.jpg

We were allowed to sit on the grind machine to have a good overview at the grinder's work.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2651/3896752716_2b06b1ce5c.jpg

Our knife is as sharp as a razor blade now -  thanks to the grinder :D

What is he going to do with the hammer?

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2565/3895974651_af878b0130.jpg

Whow! It looks like fireworks!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2442/3896753048_93190d292b.jpg

It was time to start back for home than. We saw canoes here, can you see them at the opposite riverbank?

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2453/3896753804_dea1c2b26d.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2426/3897053006_3d95f1848c.jpg

We had to walk uphill than to reach the city centre. We went home by bus and train than.

Hi Mum,

Yesterday I arrived at RikeH’s home. Dicker Kumpel and Mystery gave me a warm welcome.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0849.jpg

Today we made our first trip. We went to Hamburg – it is the second biggest city of Germany – and there was a big lake for me. You know, that I love water! It is called Alster.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0816.jpg

The trees have great colours here:

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0822.jpg

Here is a photo with all of us:

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0821.jpg

We relaxed in the sun. What a nice day for October.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0824.jpg

There were some ducks in the lake and a big statue outside.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0831.jpg

We found a nice palm tree – in the North of Germany – that is strange, isn’t it?

We watched a match of handball today. Here you see us on the way to the statium.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0856.jpg

On the way we saw this funny garden – full of garden gnomes.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0859.jpg

Next to the handball statium is the soccer stadium, where the famous HSV plays.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0864.jpg

This was the stadium we went into to see the match from the HSV against Zagreb Croatia.

A nice view over the fields.

We found a very big tractor.

At the end we went to the playground and had so much fun!

Sülfeld, Germany - 24th October 2009

By: RikeH

Hello Mum!

Today Cilly arrived. And it was just the right time, because we wanted to go with lanterns in the evening. First we said hello to Cilly.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0902.jpg

We had a big discussion, which lantern we wanted.

The big moon?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0915.jpg

or the beautiful flowers?

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0913.jpg

We all loved the sun, too.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0912.jpg

We didn’t know what to do, so we took all of them with us.

Here you can see me – with a flash....

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0911.jpg

But this was really great – to see the lantern in the dark!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0909.jpg

We walked and we sang great songs – what a nice evening!

Bad Oldesloe, Germany - 28th October 2009

By: RikeH

Hello Mum!

We visited Bad Oldesloe – a small town near to Sülfeld. RikeH went to school there – many years ago...
There is a nice island..

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0925.jpg

...and a beautiful river.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0930.jpg

I made some horseback-riding.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0936.jpg

Here is another part of the river – with troubled water.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0944.jpg

We had to wait for a receipt at the doctor’s. But it was not boring – you know, Toyvoyagers can talk and talk and talk....

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0946.jpg

The last think we saw, before we drove home was the town hall.

Greetings
Hugo

Sülfeld, Germany - 1st November 2009

By: RikeH

Hi Mum!

The weather was awful this week-end, so we decided to play billiards. First Dicker Kumpel and the billiards-hippo showed us, how to play. It looks easy, but it is very difficult.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0955.jpg

So we asked a lot of questions.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0956.jpg

Dicker Kumpel began.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0957.jpg

Then it was my turn. First I watched where the balls were.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0962.jpg

I tried it out – it was fun!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0963.jpg

After playing for a while we explored the room. It seems that a horse lived and worked here years ago.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0983.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0984.jpg

At the end I tried to call you – but we didn’t know your number.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0968.jpg

Love
Hugo

Sülfeld, Germany - 6th November 2009

By: RikeH

Hi Mum!

Today we will have a party – it is RikeH’s birthday. First we looked at her gifts. Then we sang a wonderful song for her.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0985.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0986.jpg

These flowers are so beautiful!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0991.jpg

When we helped RikeH to prepare everything for the evening we heard the bell. Who can this be? Dicker Kumpel opened the door. Another Bunny!!! He was so happy and gave her a warm welcome. She is called Co Co Rabbit and is from the UK.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0995.jpg

He introduced her to us – and we talked a lot.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_0999.jpg

Then we decorated the table – this is the way TVs would eat…

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1000.jpg

And this is the way, humans like to do it. They don’t sit on the table – this is strange.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1001.jpg

We had fun behind the happy birthday sign.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1003.jpg

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1005.jpg

The last thing this morning was to prepare the dessert. It looks yummy, doesn’t it? But it was very cold in this place.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1012.jpg

In the afternoon RikeHs Mum Hummel invited all of us to have a delicious cake. It looks great – and tasted great!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1014.jpg

In the evening we had a great party and ate a lot. But first we had some Champagne.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1017.jpg

We went to the table and ate so much. I didn’t know, what to eat first.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1018.jpg

Here are the desserts – now we were allowed to eat it.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1019.jpg

Some more snacks...

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1022.jpg

First we looked into the camera for the photo....

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1024.jpg

...but after it – we ate everything!!!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A%202009/IMG_1023.jpg

Well Mum, it was funny – I hope to be on a birthday party soon.

Yours
Hugo
