's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands - 25th January 2009

By: Marjolein

Hello mum!!

I arrived savely in 's-Hertogenbosch :)

And I say a lot today! We went to the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center today. Jheronimus or Jeroen Bosch is the most famous painter of the 's-Hertogenbosch. He lived in the 15th century and he painted lots of surreal paintings of stories from the bible.

The Art Center is in a church in 's-Hertogenbosch.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7189.jpg

For the first part of the tour we went up into the tower. We had a beautiful view over the city!

On this photo you see the most famous cathedral of the Netherlands, St John's Cathedral.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7154.jpg

This is the street Marjolein lives in, where I am staying right now!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7159.jpg

On this photo you see Marjolein's pharmacy, which is also located in a church.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7166.jpg

Inside the Art Center are all of Bosch his paintings. And from lots of the creatures he painted, where dolls hanging in the Center.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7188.jpg

When we where done watching, we had lunch. I had this big bowl 'snert'. It's soup made of pies and very, very nice!

It was a really nice day!

It was pizzaday today! Check out me making a really nice Hawa´pizza!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7215.jpg

Kasper took care of the dough.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7216.jpg

He put it in the baking tin for me.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7217.jpg

I put the sauce on it.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7219.jpg

Then mushrooms.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7220.jpg

And pineapple.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7221.jpg

And finally mozzarella cheese.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7222.jpg

I put it in the oven and we waited for about 45 minutes. And then: Let's Eat!!!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7223.jpg

It was very good :D

I'll be back for more adventures soon!

Kisses Viktor

's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands - 23rd February 2009

By: Marjolein

Hello!

It's carnival time! And because the parade goes right by Marjolein's house we made the most amazing photo's from her house!

This is the view from Marjolein's bedroomwindow.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7332.jpg

We went outside to look at the parade from Marjolein's frontdoor.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7284.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7289.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7291.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7293.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7307.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7317.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7322.jpg

When everthing went by we walked to the market.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7340-1.jpg

There was lots of music.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7346.jpg

Marjolein bought a frog for her farmersjacket. The jacket is called a 'boerenkiel' and it's tradition to wear it during the carnival. Because the citycolours of 's-Hertogenbosch are red-white-yellow Marjolein wore a scarf and gloves in those colours. The frog is because that's the animal of 's-Hertogenbosch. The city is called 'Oeteldonk' during carnival which meand something like 'a hill on which frogs sit'.

Utrecht, The Netherlands - 13th March 2009

By: Marjolein

Hi mummy!

I went to Marjolein's school in Utrecht today!

We went to the trainstation of Den Bosch first.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7409.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7410.jpg

We had a chair for ourselves.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7412.jpg

We read in Marjolein's book The Story of Art. It was kinda... boring.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7413.jpg

So we decided to read the Dutch Donald Duck!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7414.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7415.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7416.jpg

The view was also kinda boring haha. And the glass was very dirty! Sometimes I saw some houses but mostly it was all green grass and trees.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7422.jpg

We listened to Marjolein's ipod.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7423.jpg

The trainstation was a bit bigger than the station of 's-Hertogenbosch.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7424.jpg

We walked trough the city Utecht. It's about 15 minutes walk from the trainstation to the school. On this photo you see the most famous tower of Utrecht: the Dom.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7425.jpg

This is the Sint Janschurch (Saint Johnschurch) at the Sint Janskerkhof (Saint Johncemetery), we are near Marjolein's school now.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7430.jpg

This is the street of Marjoleins school.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7433.jpg

Well actually one of the places where the school is. The University of Utrecht is everywhere in the city. The biggest buildings are in the Uithof, we are going there next tuesday for the class Who's who in the Classical Mythology!

This class is called The Story of Art (just like the book we where falling asleep at).

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7437.jpg

See you soon!

Viktor

Antwerp, Belgium - 11th April 2009

By: Marjolein

Dear mummy,

Happy Easter! It was another day of Belgium today! Antwerpen this time! :D

Here is a great easterphoto in a shoppingmall in Antwerpen. These bunnies actually moved! The sign in the back with 'Vrolijk Pasen' on it means: Happy Easter.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7601.jpg

This is the most famous marketplace and fountain of Antwerpen: the 'Grote Markt' (Great Market) with the Brabofountain.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7603.jpg

The harbour of Antwerpen.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7612.jpg

The castle in the harbour of Antwerpen called 'Het Steen' (The Rock). It's built between 1200 and 1225 and renovated in 1520. From 1303 untill 1827 the castle was used as a prison. Since 1952 is the National Maritiem Museum located in Het Steen.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7617.jpg

After all this walking it was time to have some pizza! Check me out chilling with the Godfather!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7623.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7622.jpg

Pfeew now I really need some sleep! See you tomorrow!

Eindhoven, The Netherlands - 12th April 2009

By: Marjolein

Me again!

Today I can wish you a happy easter on the right day haha. HAPPY EASTER! ;)

It was another day of cool trips! First we went to the Historical Openairmuseum in Eindhoven! It's a museum in which the historical buildings from pre-historic times and the middle ages.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7625.jpg

There where lots of things to do like grinding grain. On this sign you can read: 'Grinding Grain. A small hand of grain per child please. Notify an employee when there is no more grain.'

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7626.jpg

Here you see me grinding grain! Hm it looks like there's not much grain left haha.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7627.jpg

You could also go inside all the buildings and for example see somebody write in 14th century language!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7633.jpg

We sat inside the Inn.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7648.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7645.jpg

We had a very medieval sausagebread haha. The coins next to me are golden coins. At the entrance you had to trade your euro's for golden coins to pay with in the museum.

Maastricht, The Netherlands - 12th April 2009

By: Marjolein

After the museum we went to Maastricht. This is a city in the very south of The Netherlands.

We parked on the other side of the river the Maas and we walked over this bridge.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7678.jpg

This is the most famous marketplace, the Vrijthof.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7655.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7663.jpg

This is a beautiful church in which a bookstore is located.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7668.jpg

And the Grote Markt (Great Market) with the city hall on the background.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7673.jpg

We walked back to the car over this bridge. The most famous bridge of Maastricht and it's called the Saint Servaasbridge. He is the saint of Maastricht.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7679.jpg

On the Plein 1992 I saw some pigphoto's! They say: The Natural Behaviour of pigs. They are photo's from a club fighting for the rights of pigs in The Netherlands!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7687.jpg

's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands - 13th April 2009

By: Marjolein

And we took a boottrip through the water of 's-Hertogenbosch. It's called the Binnendieze and in the 13th century the city was built around this water. Untill the 1970s it was used as a sewer before that also as transportationway and they brew beer from the water and washed wool in it.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7720.jpg

Now it's mostly used to let tourists see the city from below.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7724.jpg

The city is built on top of these bricks.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7739.jpg

We also went outside the city, outside the citywall.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7736.jpg

You can still see an old canon on this wall.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7734.jpg

It was really interesting! And I was very happy the water isn't used as a sewer anymore, pfeew that would smell bad!

Pieterburen, The Netherlands - 17th April 2009

By: Marjolein

Hoi! (Hi in Dutch)

Because Marjolein's boyfriend Kasper just got his driverlicense he wanter to drive around for a bit. We went to the province Groningen where Marjolein and Kasper's parents live, to pick up the car of Kasper's parent. We first went to Pieterburen. Here they have shelter for young seals! These seals for example lost their mother (mostly because they get shot my men) or they got lost or got trapped in a net or oil. When the seal is okay to swim in the big sea again with his friends, they are set free. Seals adapt to their enviroment very easily.

But as you can read in my story, seals biggest enemies are men. This is also what the sign of the sealshelter says. It says: If his biggest enemies is mankind, who does he go to for help?

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7780.jpg

Lenie 't Hart is the woman that founded the shelter.

We looked to the seals trough the glass.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7752.jpg

But you could also go outside to see them a bit better.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7755.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7754.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7753.jpg

Aaawh aren't they sweet!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7745.jpg

You where not allowed to touch them though, there was a sign that said the bite!

I also swam in the sea for myself, haha. The sea near Pieterburen is called the North Sea.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7766.jpg

And we played a bit.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7774.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7775.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7776.jpg

And I also learned a lot about seals. This sign is about the skeleton of the seal. It for example says that although you cannot see the neck of the seal on the outside, it actually has a very moveable one.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF7777.jpg

It was so cool to see real seals!
