This is a lilli-pilli tree. Nik says it has these little fruits like berries in late summer (I found some, even though my host told me a few flying foxes or fruit bats come to feast every night!)

Prowl_Worshipper here. A lot of people in my country view these fruit bats as pests and try to poison or shoot them, even though they are a protected species, which is very sad. Flying foxes are welcome on my property and they DO NOT cause damage or spread disease etc as many people would have you believe. This is an excellent site if you want to read more about flying foxes: Flying foxes/Fruit bats

I'm earning my keep! Nik's dad is redoing their bathroom and I spent half of today helping lay these little tiles.

This is Pilot Kevvy. He's a very special koala from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service. I have seen the Westpac helicopter fly over a few times but it moves too quickly to get a good photo  :(
Kevvy explained that everyone in the Hunter Valley knows the red and yellow helicopters (there are two, this older one below is called Angel II. Angel I crashed and was destroyed a few years ago) and are always raising money to keep them flying. Kevvy came to live with my host after a raffle on a bus trip!

Mmm...sweets! These are some old-style Aussie sweets. There are white, milk and caramel chocolate drops, and a chocky freckle! That's a milk chocky drop covered with 100s & 1000s. I had no idea what they were so Nik explained. Hundreds & Thousands are little tiny multicoloured sprinkles that you can put on ice cream, or on top of icing on birthday cakes, or a very Australian treat is fairy bread! That's the H's & T's sprinkled on a slice of buttered bread! Yummm...

This is a chocolate bar called a Cherry Ripe. Dark chocolate-covered cherries and cherry-flavoured soft coconut.

Here are some other Australian tastes. Golden Syrup is like honey, only much darker and very, very rich. It is also known as Cocky's Joy! (Cocky is short for cockatoo)
And Nik said I just couldn't leave Australia without tasting Vegemite! I was not too keen though...

I am leaving this hot country tomorrow and heading to the Netherlands! I have had fun and I'll miss Nik but I'm looking forward to travelling on. My host surprised me with this farewell gift - a lovely velvet collar! Do you like it Mum?

Goodbye Lucan, you were a perfect guest! You are welcome back anytime  ;)

Eindhoven, The Netherlands - 24th March 2010

By: inkie1010

Hello mummy!!!

Yesterday I arrived again in Eindhoven to visit my host Inge again! It was great to see each other again!

When I came out of the envelop I was very hungry after the long trip from Australia. So Inge and I started to cook dinner:

salmon, florence fennel, orange pepper, bacon, cream, onion and pasta!

Here are the ingredients:

Zwolle, the Netherlands - 5th April 2010

By: inkie1010

Hello mum!!

This weekend we visited family in the north-east of the Netherlands. We took some photo's during the train trip!

These pictures were taken on our way to the north. This is Amersfoort Train station. There was a museum train which had a little exposition about freedom.

http://i40.tinypic.com/fvk5sk.jpg

Inside the freedom train, this was the wagon were kids could make drawings.

http://i39.tinypic.com/2lsxl4p.jpg

This wagon had text all over the seats:

Then we had to run for the next train. Here we are on our way passing a little forest:

http://i43.tinypic.com/14kbsic.jpg

and the typical Dutch landscape:

http://i42.tinypic.com/1112n11.jpg

On the way back home we first had to change trains in Zwolle, so we took some pictures there.
This is me with the sweets-vending machine :)

http://i39.tinypic.com/mijq1e.jpg

And even better, a typical dutch snack vending machine! You'll see them everyone especially on the train stations.

http://i39.tinypic.com/207uvzo.jpg

On every station there are multiple Kiosk shops where you can buy food, drinks and magazines.

And some more shops on Zwolle train station:

And on our way to the south again! Here we make a short stop at Amersfoort train station:

http://i44.tinypic.com/2nh3ko2.jpg

Heading for Utrecht, racing another train ;)

http://i44.tinypic.com/fymi9y.jpg

Almost at Utrecht, the largest station with a lot of tracks (it's the central point in the Netherlands)

http://i41.tinypic.com/amfl1h.jpg

Arriving at the platforms of Utrecht Central Station. Here we had to switch trains again!

Typical Dutch landscape again!

I love riding the trains :)

Hugs, Lucan
