Vienna , Austria - 14th December 2010

Hi Mom!
It's Christmas soon, so my host mom decided to make some cookies. And I helped! We measured the flour, the butter and the sugar and then we mixed some eggs in.
We made Linzer Kipferl, some shortbread cookies. They are filled with jam and then you dip the ends in chocolate.
Oh, they were so yummy!
Sorry, no cookies left

Graz, Austria - 23rd December 2010
By: marcie08
Hi Mom!
Here you can see me helping in the kitchen. My host parents prepared for the big Christmas dinner and I wanted to help, too. You can see me preparing a jelly for the starter. I had to grate the lemons and then I put them in a pan together with some wine and juice and let it simmer.
Then we took care of the fish. We stuffed it with fresh herbs and lemons!
Wow, I am such a good cook

Graz, Austria - 24th December 2010
By: marcie08
MERRY CHRISTMAS, MOM!
Here in Austria, they celebrate Christmas on the 24th of December. Every family has their own tradition on how to celebrate and what to eat. Yesterday I helped preparing some things for the meal and today I was finally allowed to eat it
You can also see the Christmas tree. Of course, there are different ways to decorate the tree. Some people use glass ornaments, others figurines carved from wood and here we used a mix up of things that the family has collected over the years!
Of course there also were presents! The presents are brought by the Christkind here by the way - not by Santa Clause. The Christkind is kind of an angel that brings the presents and the tree. When it has finished decorating and arranging the presents, it rings a bell and flies away!
Well, I haven't seen the Christkind, but the presents!

Hi Mom!
Here are some pictures from our sightseeing tour through Vienna.
We started with the Schönbrunn Castle and the Gloriette. It was sooo cold there, with an icy wind blowing...
So we went back to the city center to the Museum's Quarter. That is a combination of many different museums, for example the Leopold Collection. We enjoyed a coffee in a restaurant there and then went on to the Museum for art history and natural history!
Servus!

Duesseldorf, Germany - 12th July 2011
By: olgamaus
Hi Mummy,
today we visited Duesseldorf.
Duesseldorf is the capital city of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The city is situated on the River Rhine, and is renowned for its many events and also for its fashion and trade fairs. We went here by train and walked towards the old town. We saw this fountain along the way.
We came past the Koenigsallee, the most famous shopping street here,(and the most expensive one ), famous for the fashion showrooms and luxury retail stores located along its sides with the landscaped canal that runs along its center,
From here we were close to the old town.
Katja showed us the old city hall.
We had lunch in a famous seafood restaurant. We enjoyed "Altbier", a special beer which is brewn in this region.
The old town of Duesseldorf is called "the longest bar in the world" because you can find reams of pubs here.
Katja wanted to show us river Rhine. We reached the Burgplatz. Here you can see Burgplatz (castle place) with the Schlossturm (castle tower).
What a great sight with the Rhine promenade, Rhine Tower and the old harbour in the background. Rhine Tower is a telecommunication tower with a rotating restaurant behind the windows.
We decided to walk towards Rhine Tower and the harbour. Here on the promonade you can also find lots of bars and restaurants.
I took a look behind ...
Even this ship is a bar!
Katja showed us the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia, the parliament,. situated at river Rhine next to Rhine Tower.
We reached the harbour with its marina than.
This part of the harbour is called Medienhafen (media harbour). For decades the harbour has been an area of workers, industry and trade. After the Mannesmann company had discontinued its tube production in Duesseldorf, parts of the central harbour were no longer needed. As a result the eastern part of the harbour started to be redeveloped. Nowadays you can find media companies, but also fashion and design offices here, lots of gastronomy also. You can also find some spectacular post-modern architecture, most famously three twisted constructions by Frank Gehry, here.
We walked back to the old town than.
Here we saw this old dock, even an historic ship is moored here.
When we walked back to the station, we came by the city hall once more, this time without any cars in front of it
I was so tired after this exciting trip that I fell into bed immediately when we came home.
Bye
Jelle

Remscheid, at home, Germany - 13th July 2011
By: olgamaus
Hi Mummy,
today another ToyVoyager arrived, it's April from Australia. She brought a friend with her, it's Baby Pom from the Fimble family. They had some chocolate, a postcard and April's notebook in their luggage. April even brought her own bed with her.
We also received an envelope filled with souvenirs from Katja's ToyVoyager Dottie Mouse, sent from Canada. Katja told us that Dottie Mouse had a great time over there. Dottie sent a measuring tape (showing inches instead of cm), a fridge magnet, a dream catcher, tickets from her trip to London and a postcard. Katja was really happy to receive Dottie's souvenirs. We all say a big Thank You to smaug
Bye
