Elst, The Netherlands - 16th January 2010
By: Sollie
Just wanted to show what we done so far today, they devide the plastic, this is really good for the environment, and not too difficult to do either!
You get used to taking it off before you throw the rest in the garbage.
This was the big pile of paper, newspapers and boxes in the garage, and had to be brought to the container by the shop.
Helping out with filling the wagon with paper, before we leave for the shop
And last, this is the street im living in at the moment, the snow has almost gone by now, too bad
But there might me more coming, but im not sure.
Its cold tho, at least it feels cold, cause its really windy in The Netherlands, but Ragnhild keeps me in her warm pocket when we take a walk

Woudenberg (and area around there), The Netherlands - 23rd January 2010
By: Sollie
HI MOM!
Its been a SUPER day, really great!
We have been GEOCACHING!
Do you know what that is?
We have this GPS, and then we go search for nice geocaches in the area here, its like a treasure hunt, and lots of fun!
If you don't know what it is, you can read about it here...
This is where we walked when we were searching for the 1st cache for today, it was a quiet little forest, and the cache was easily found, so we went in, got it and went out again
Here in The Netherlands, they call this a "Mushroom", and it tells you how far away the different cities are from where it is. Holland is a bike country, lots of people use their bikes to travel, and this can be handy, to see how far you have to bike.
The 2nd cache today was at a golf court, it was a little bit chilly, and no people around...
Its not weird tho, i mean, its nice to golf in the sun i guess (im not a golf-playing-kinda-squirrel tho) but when its January and the wind is sour, who wants to walk after a tiny ball all day???
The geocache was found EASY, and we could get into the car again, and drive to cache #3 for the day...
This cache was REALLY interresting!
You can read the cache page here (If you are logged in on the geocaching site).
Its only in dutch tho...
Only 279m left to walk...this is soooooo exciting, love it, love it, love it!
This is the reason its a cache here, to show off this very strange building, a PYRAMID, in the middle of The Netherlands, you wouldnt believe it, if you didnt see it!
Remarkable!
This is where the cache was hid, normally you dont publish the hiding place or the cache itself, that would spoil alot for others who wants to do this cache later, and the owner wants people to search on their own.
But i really wanted to show you how it looks like, and how we found it!
Its so exciting to find and open it, inside its always a logbook, where you sign your name and date you found it, as proof you have been there. When you get home, you log it online on geocaching.
All your finds will be seen in a list on your own page, its really neat!
We put a TB (Travel Bug) in the cache before we left, thats almost the same as TV's! They also have ID's, and missions, and you can take them out, take them home, furfill the mission and then let them back out, into another cache, the next time you are geocaching!
Taking some more pictures of the pyramid, really stunning!
And this is the guy who build it, he was French, and build it for Napoleon after he got "crowned" to be emperor on October 18th 1804.
(He actually build it for himself and the 18.000 men he had with him, but officially, it was for Napoleon...)
Isnt this weird?
We didnt take any pictures at the 4th and last cache for the day, but it was a easy find too, we only had single caches today, but it was lots of fun, and im hoping my host will go geocaching again soon, then we can go treasure hunting again!
Hope you liked it, as much as i did.
Love you mom!
Rocky.

Dreumel, The Netherlands - 14th February 2010
By: Sollie
This weekend it was CARNAVAL weekend here!
They all dress up in crazy, funny, colourful and pretty clothing, and party and go kinda NUTS
(I like Nutty people!)
We started up the day by setting up a stand for warm soup, meatballs, sossages and coffie, my hostess had promised to help out with selling for a few hours, while the people were parading.
I could see most of the parade from here, it was a bit chilly, and it helped to stand here.
People make their own carnaval wagons, with a theme or a funny tone, many people work hours and hours and hours to get it ready for the parade!
When the carnaval starts, all the people that has been working on the wagon, dress up in the same theme as the wagon, and walk after it/ stand on it, and party and sing and go crazy
Look at that!
More wagons...
I almost look big on this one
All of us
After a few hours in the cold here, we could go inside, where it was very warm, and people partying!
The Prince Carnaval was there aswell, and i got to climb into that...thing...haha
Funny
All of us together on the bar
We had a great weekend, with cinema yesterday, and carnaval today, we didnt stay up that late, but we were dancing and singing and having so much fun, i fell asleep very quick
Love you mom!
Yours, Rocky

To not be totally bored, we were playing the DS
We were all very excited, and it was hard to sit still...
Watching over the hand luggage

Even more exciting in the air! And it was very pretty up there, sun shining, blue sky!
When we landed at gardermoen (oslo airport), my hostess father and sister picked us up. This is the crazy sister...and us...
She scared me a little at first, with those piercings and stuff, but she is super nice!
Welcome to Norway!
Its been a long day!

Svullrya, Norway - 22nd February 2010
By: Sollie
Started the day out by playing with the cat, called "Makrell"
She is super cute, but she was a little bit scary aswell...
She was nice tho!
Today we went to Sweden "for real", the tourist way
At least now you can see the PROOF that I have been in Sweden aswell!
On this picture im still in Norway...
And a few steps later...im in SWEDEN
COOL!
On the background you can see the border line, they call it the "tree border", they made this in the old days, to see the border better
I think its about 5-10 meters wide.
On the other side of the road
After the tourist pictures, we went for a little drive, it was a very pretty drive, lots of...trees, and...trees...and SNOW, enough snow!
We stopped at this place to have a look at the pretty site.
I climbed up in a tree, it was refreshing, and oh so nice!
This is the best ever, just be ONE with nature you know, climb, eat nuts and have vacation
We stopped at a friends house, and Freeks father were able to try out a snow machine, it was really fun to see, and it looks like he really enjoyed it too!
After a long day, i fell asleep next to Freek

Kongsvinger, Norway - 24th February 2010
By: Sollie
Another beautiful day here in Norway, the sun was shining, and it was perfect to go outside, and have another tourist trip!
First, we went to "Finnskogtoppen", its a SPA resourt, hotel and health centre, on the top of a mountain near Svullrya.
(LOcals call it the "carrot top", because the healthy foods...hihihi)
If it wasnt for all the snow, we could have walked to the back side of the resort, and would have seen a beautiful scenery, but it was like.. METERS (ok, not that much, but enough) snow, so we didnt
The hotel here, has grass on the roof btw
After the carrot house (hihi), we left for Kongsvinger, a town about 45 minutes by car from Svullrya, its the nearest big town, with about 30.000 people.
Here its a fort, it was build in the end of 1600 to protect Norway and Oslo (the capital) against Sweden.
Here i am inside one of the houses where the soldiers ate and kept warm.
And this is how they slept...
Doesent look as nice as my own bed...
Was a bit hard to take pictures in the dark
This is the shape of the fort, its a star shaped one, and you can see the buildings and how it looks like
Me at one of the many vieuws, kinda hard to get a good look, because, yes, too much snow.
Couldnt get very close to the endge...
But at one point, many people had been before, so i could get there and see what a beautiful country it is!
Isnt that pretty Mom?
I wish you had seen it!!!
Not sure what kind of building that is...but its a bulding on the fort haha
This is the vieuw from the other side, we walked into tons of snow to get here
This is the entrance, we took a picture while we walked outside again
You can see the royal seal on the "door", made for one of norways kings, im not sure witch one tho
When a prince becomes a king, he travels through all of Norway, thats so the people can greet him on his crowning, and Kongsvinger is one of the towns he visits
Next time they have a new king in Norway, his Roayl Seal will also appear on the walls here
Hope you liked the tour, i sure had a super time!!!

Hamar/Gardermoen Airport, Norway - 1st March 2010
By: Sollie
Today is the LAST day here in Norway, i have had a very nice stay, and im sad because i have to go home already
We had to go to Hamar first, to drop of Ragnhild's father, he works as a taxi driver there.
And since we had some time left...
We were playing tourists for the last time
Me, infront of the Vikingskipet, the Olympic ice-scating hall, build for the Winter Olympics in 1994!
We were staning in a tower, that lets you enjoy the sight of the hall, and the rest of the site...
Lots of snow, but snow is pretty!
The bridge between Hamar and Stange.
Hamar railwaystation, this is where we say goodbye to Ragnhilds dad (cry) and to our visit here, next stop: Gardermoen Airport.
Check out all of that luggage...
CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO OF ME IN THE TRAIN!
Looking out the window in the train...
Freek and me at the airport, we have walked through the whole passport thingy, and we are tired, but ofcourse, pictures has to be taken
This is where we soon will walk down, and into the plane, taking us back to The Netherlands...
The check-in...
The hall by #44, where we left from...
We managed to get home safely, and have many good memories, from a beautiful country.
Would love to go back there some day, maybe when its a LITTLE bit warmer, snow is very nice, but oooohhh so cold
Love you mom, and miss you!
Lots of love, Rocky

Dreumel, The Netherlands - 26th March 2010
By: Sollie
Today we decided to go eat PANCAKES!
Its a pancake restaurant just outside the little village im staying in, and they have good pancakes, i was told
My napkin
Without even knowing it, it was the day of the pancake today! Hahaha
Really funny
It was soooo many to choose from, really horribly many different ones, it was very difficult to choose!
Meat, vegetables, fruits, icecream, you name it!
We ordered something to drink, and we got a balloon with it aswell haha
Getting some sugar for on the pancacke, im too fond of the syrup...
It only took them about 10 minutes, and then we already could it, it was super fast!
The people behing us were all grympy, cause they had waited 45 minutes for theirs :P
It was a DELICIOUS bacon/apple pancake, really, super!
After the restaurant, we went to the pub, Freek en Ragnhilds pub, its very nice there!
Thats also the place where they have their very own Cache (Geocaching, remember i was looking for treasure with the GPS???)
This was lying in their cache when they checked it out...
It had a tiny "gold" coin in it, its a trackable item, that belongs to someone, that they put in a cache, and then people bring it to the next, and then others to the next and so on, almost like TV's!
Cool hé?
It was a very nice day, and again, i enjoyed the company!
Tomorrow we are going to the soccer field, Ragnhild has a game to play!
AND, we are invited to a BBQ party at their friends house, can't waaaaait!
Gonna have so much fun
Love, Rocky
