Hung Hom, Hong Kong - 5th September 2009

By: silky

I havent been going out much coz my host mum is really busy with uni. It has been a relaxing week for me. :) We had Chinese(rice), Japanese(sashimi) and Korean(Rice cake). Korean scramble rice cake should be spicy but my host mum's sis cant stand that so they use soysause instead. It is very normal to have food from different countries in a meal in Hong Kong:)

A typhoon is going to hit HOng Kong! the weather is so bad today..it has been raining a lot with thundering! Can you see the little Yellow cloud on tv? It is the "Amber rainstorm signal" issued by the Hong kong observatory.

My host mum told me that rainstorm signals are used to "alert the public about the occurrence of heavy rain which is likely to bring about major disruptions, and to ensure a state of readiness within the essential services to deal with emergencies."

According to the official website, the amber rainstorm signal means "Heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue. "

There are 3 rainstorm signals in Hong kong, name amber, red and black. My host mum and her sister is hoping for a black signal tomorrow - in that way they will have a dayoff!

The Typhoon is gone, finally:) ! Today we had Japnese food (again) for lunch and we have a new friend coming! We talked a lot and read the local newspaper. Chinese is so difficult! Now I can only remember one word from the news - "二" it means two;)

Chai Wan, Hong Kong - 6th October 2009

By: silky

Hi!

We went to do some hiking at the weekend - the weather was awesome! We took the taxi to the MTR station in Tsim Sha Tsui. Oh by the way, MTR is the subway/train of Hong Kong. It took around 30 minutes from tsim sha tsui to Chai Wan MTR station.

After Hiking, we went to have dim sum in a Chinese restaurant. Yummy

Since my host mum is really busy with her university work, she won't be able to help me update the blog that often. Anyway, she will try to update it once a week

Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong - 10th October 2009

By: silky

This is my last day in Hong Kong:) We went to Tsim Sha Tsui post office so I can travel to my next host in Germany! I am really excited !We passed by the 1881 Heritage and Penisular Hotel. The 1881 Heritage is a new shopping centre as well as new heritage hotel in hong kong:) It was the former marine Police in the 1880s to 1997. That is why the building is of victorian style ;)

Mechterstädt, Germany - 5th November 2009

By: iloveletters

Hello Mummy,

At last I have time to post some pictures. First of all: Here is me on the first day in Germany!

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040559.jpg

And this is an ariel view of the village Mechterstädt that I now live in. It is tiny. There are only about 1000 people. Very quiet but that is ok.
Maybe we'll take a stroll later and I'll see some of the 'landmarks': mini market, church, pharmacy, train station....  :D

Penig, Germany - 7th November 2009

By: iloveletters

This weekend we visited my host's parents. On November 6th it was her dad's 70th birthday so there was  a little celebration. We went to a restaurant to have lunch. It is called 'Lochmühle', which is a name for an old mill.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040578.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040574.jpg

The restaurant is in a forest area, quietly situated. Though... they are building a new motorway now, only a few hundred metres away. What a pity!

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040577.jpg

Penig is my host's hometown,  a small town in Saxony, about 200 km from Mechterstädt. There live about 7000 inhabitants. This is the house we stayed in:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040582.jpg

and here you can see a view over the garden, the town church in the background:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040586.jpg

It is fall here now so the trees lose their leaves.  We did a bit of gardening, raking the leaves:

And I met these cuties, some rabbits my host's parents take care of:

We helped cleaning the cages. Poo, what a smell:

We had a great weekend!
See you soon!

Erfurt, Germany - 8th November 2009

By: iloveletters

This Sunday and Monday  I was on tour with my host's choir.
They are members of a Thuringian choir project called 'Thuringia Cantat'.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040596.jpg

Because on November 9th Germany celebrated the fall of the wall 20 years ago, the project gave two pop concerts to commemorate the anniversary. The choir sang Eastern German pop songs together with a band and orchestra.

On Sunday we went to Erfurt. In the morning and afternoon there was a rehearsal  and the show started at 6pm.
Afterwards we walked through Erfurt. Here is the cathedral at night.

Leipzig, Germany - 9th November 2009

By: iloveletters

Today we were in Leipzig for the choir concert.
We stayed at this hostel overnight, near Leipzig main train station.

The train station is a shopping centre, too. So we went shopping before the concert....

Thessalonikki, Greece - 18th November 2009

By: iloveletters

Hello Mommy!

Guess what?! I went to Greece last week from Wednesday 18 to Sunday 22! That is why you have not heard of me lately.

We stayed in Thessalonikki for 5 days. My host went there for a bussiness trip but we also did a bit of sightseeing. Loads of fotos.... I'll show you more soon!

Thessalonikki, Greece - 19th November 2009

By: iloveletters

Alright, here is where I went last week: Thessalonikki in Greece.

My host is working on a European school project and the first coordinating meeting was in Thessaloniki.

We started on Wednesday, 18 November from Frankfurt Airport:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040608.jpg

...and about 4 hours later we arrived in Thessaloniki Airport:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040611.jpg

We went straight to our hotel in the city centre. Here is a view from the balcony onto the noisy street:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040793.jpg

On Thursday, 19 November we visited the mayor of Triandria, the part of city where the school is located. Here I am in the conference room of the town hall:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040651.jpg

Walking through the Greek streets:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/iloveletters/Boo%20Boo/P1040665.jpg

And we took a stroll through little market streets. Look what they sell: all these olives and fish!
