Leverkusen, Germany - 17th October 2010
By: olgamaus
Hi Mummy,
today we met Katja's friend Erika. We drove to Leverkusen, a town in Rhineland, to take a walk on the "Obstweg", which is leading along orchard meadows.
Orchard meadows is an extensive grassland-orchard management system, consisting of a meadow with scattered fruit trees , usually mown once or twice a year; now an endangered, species-rich, semi-natural habitat found in cultural landscapes near villages. Unfortunately the weather was not that great.
Our trip started at "NaturGut Ophoven", a manor consisting an environmental education center for kids and adults in Leverkusen. It was founded in 1984 on an old estate in the district Opladen. One of the buildings there once was part of an historic castle complex, built in 14th century. It is one of the oldest buildings in the municipal area.
I saw this funny giant flower, made of discarded motorway signs. Can you see the sun collectors? When the sun is shining this flower is turning around - it must be a funny view
Here you can see nesting boxes for different birds and also bats.
Our path was following a creek for some time.
These are Heidschnucken, a moorland sheep which you can find in Northern Germany and Northern Europe.
You can find information boards all along the path, telling you interesting facts about fruit-growing and the landscape in common.
Katja loves animals, so we stopped to pet this donkey.
We also walked along fields, some of them already harvested and nice hamlets.
When we returned to our starting point, we had a coffe in the café of Naturgut Ophoven. They have a world map and I showed Squirt my home country.
Bye
Owen

leaving, Remscheid - 3rd November 2010
By: olgamaus
Hi Mummy,
today I packed my things and left Remscheid.
I had a look at my diary while Katja wrote a postcard to my next host. I am taking gummybears for my next host with me, I hope she'll like them.
It will be a short trip, Katja assured me.
Bye
Owen

Oberhof, Germany - 4th December 2010
By: iloveletters
Dear mommy,
It has been snowing here for the last week. So we went to Oberhof last Saturday. Oberhof is THE ski resort in Thuringia. Well, we did not go skiing but went for a walk in the snow.
Here are some pictures or our car drive to Oberhof through the snowy forest. Peachy came with us too.

Yesterday we went to a Christmas party. So first we wrapped the presents.
It was a surprise party so the others would not know who gave them their present.
And we had a very delicious meal at the restaurant: roast vension.
