Thats when she remembered she needed to buy stamps.

Ffestiniog Railway, Wales - 11th September 2010

By: miapearl

Hi Mummy,

Today, we have come to the Ffestiniog Railway in Porthmadog. We are going on a train to Blaenau Ffestiniog and then will come back to Porthmadog.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP0dTKaFFI/AAAAAAAACMU/vsgUhYfUa60/ffest1.jpg
We are travelling first class, though I have to share a seat with Dusel, Mira, alfie langer, and dotdog
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP1JgDkM4I/AAAAAAAACN4/tcJ2V1wWA_U/s512/nadfest1.jpg
We arrived in Blaenau Ffestiniog and my host took me to see the engine. On route, I wanted to rest for a minute.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP1JIfn_FI/AAAAAAAACN0/sr0CbSkK_u4/nadfest2.jpg
There's our nice engine, and it has to go to the other end of the train.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP1IE_98JI/AAAAAAAACNw/PS9mjG-hAds/s512/nadfest3.jpg
We popped into the shop. Do I like Thomas the Tank Engine?
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP0eEj9ysI/AAAAAAAACMY/v0PAPL8v5ps/ffest2.jpg
Look at the raindrops on the window.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP0fZdcVTI/AAAAAAAACMc/i253BRuBnXk/ffest3.jpg
It is a bit grey out there.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP0gEMzf9I/AAAAAAAACMg/n1qAl-mTmyA/ffest4.jpg
We cross a level crossing. Choo choo....
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP1HOBRtKI/AAAAAAAACNs/Je1YQvbpU_Q/nadfest4.jpg
Back in Porthmadog, look at that big cloud.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP1Go_BOnI/AAAAAAAACNo/U-f3-H3pCcU/nadfest5.jpg
It is sunny in Porthmadog but those clouds over there perhaps are full of rain.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP1F2Ee97I/AAAAAAAACNk/ZbxUyR95pdc/nadfest6.jpg
The engine has to do some shunting. No more trains leave Porthmadog today.

Caernarfon Castle, Wales - 16th September 2010

By: miapearl

Hi Mummy,
Today, we went to Caernarfon Castle. The Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJZr2TUW40I/AAAAAAAACOU/RoIZIXntuSY/charliecastle1.jpg
See the dais there, that was where Prince Charles received the crown to become the Prince of Wales
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJZr3AblzbI/AAAAAAAACOY/3nJP3tzlBb8/charliecastle2.jpg
We climbed up many stairs, including spiral staircases to get here (and to the top of towers).
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJZr3txSKhI/AAAAAAAACOc/o66tQd6NfVE/charliecastle3.jpg
We've come round to the other side.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJZt4h5oooI/AAAAAAAACPE/ufsT2BoIGao/s512/tvcastle.jpg
Amazing castle.

LlanfairP.G. & Menai Bridge, Wales - 17th September 2010

By: miapearl

Hello mummy,
Today we jumped on some buses as we took my host's relative back to the station. We went on to the Isle of Anglesey to a well-known but not well-said village - Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-kGPMpeI/AAAAAAAACPg/Xx0AYxLxWtM/charliellanfair1.jpg
We are 4241 miles from Miami, 3262 miles from New York....
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-k56odUI/AAAAAAAACPk/bN64U56yaIM/charliellanfair2.jpg
There is a station. The sign gives an approximate pronunciation of the name.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-lXhxE2I/AAAAAAAACPo/1zTmY6P-tug/charliellanfair3.jpg
After lunch in nearby Menai Bridge, we walked across the Menai Bridge which spans the Menai Straits.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-l119fzI/AAAAAAAACPs/fa-7KfVTmoQ/charliellanfair4.jpg
There is a second bridge, the Britannia Bridge which also crosses the Straits.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-ypqrfVI/AAAAAAAACQs/TCLeWu5AnpQ/menaicache.jpg
On Menai Bridge, someone has placed a GeoCache. My host had previously found it one lunchtime and was on the verge of giving up....
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-m9AiBUI/AAAAAAAACPw/IdpnyZ1TNd4/charliellanfair5.jpg
We then got to the "mainland" to wait for the bus to take us into Bangor and then for another bus on home.

Bryn Celli Ddu, Wales - 19th September 2010

By: miapearl

Today, we have come to see Bryn Celli Ddu. This started out as a henge but was covered to become a burial mound with a chamber. It dates back to the Neolithic period.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHZXb8YPI/AAAAAAAACSU/Id8k1z3Qhik/s512/charliecelli1.jpg
Below is the entrance.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHaBtUlKI/AAAAAAAACSY/pDdpYjb15R0/charliecelli2.jpg
I think we can squeeze through that gap.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHa-Hg1kI/AAAAAAAACSc/EkH3-8MB3p8/charliecelli3.jpg
Here we are in the chamber
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHIGLEXTI/AAAAAAAACRA/If2YLHFqoN8/bryncelli1.jpg
In the photo below, just above me is a letter from someone to a friend who died.

Llanberis, Wales - 25th September 2010

By: miapearl

Today, we had a GeoCaching day, in and around the Snowdonian village of Llanberis.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHboTaAeI/AAAAAAAACSg/FaiGgTmIe7I/charliedoc1.jpg
First off, was a walk around Coed Doctor, a community woodland.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHJp_1bdI/AAAAAAAACRI/6mLXPN_IeFc/coeddoc1.jpg
The first cache was easy to find.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHKVXCdDI/AAAAAAAACRM/iwTv4p8kcP8/coeddoc2.jpg
The second was easy to find but hard to get to - my host's son was put on to my host's husband's shoulders to retrieve the cache.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHLN1-2rI/AAAAAAAACRQ/j5zKE05EdrU/coeddoc3.jpg
And the third cache here was near the lake.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHMAnYeOI/AAAAAAAACRU/2Eg6zDCh6gA/snowdoncache1.jpg
The next cache was high up in the hills.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHNW3yBwI/AAAAAAAACRY/0UbUIvvQWbw/snowdoncache2.jpg
The cache is in the Snowdon View series.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHOG98LnI/AAAAAAAACRc/eRX0kAKxcBM/snowdoncache3.jpg
Snowdon is visible in this picture.

Din Lligwy, Wales - 3rd October 2010

By: miapearl

Hi Mummy,
Today, we have come back to Anglesey, to Din Lligwy. There is a Neolithic burial chamber constructed before 3000 B.C. Also, there is a Roman-British settlement of stone buildings, and the ruins of a medieval chapel.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgmuL8jfeI/AAAAAAAACT8/fW5Mp3XPpBo/s512/charliellig1.jpg
The chapel was built in the 12th century with some rebuilding in the 14th century and an extension in the 16th century.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm-oyRnpI/AAAAAAAACVI/XSfJwneSGwc/lligwya.jpg
Can you see me on the wall?
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgmvX83BBI/AAAAAAAACUE/TBPkFpnc400/charliellig3.jpg
There was a bell.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgmuiihWkI/AAAAAAAACUA/uCOs8hbRouY/charliellig2.jpg
You can see some of the North Anglesey coast.
We have come to the settlement. The site was excavated in the early 20th century, finding various things from the 3rd and 4th century including animal bones with some made into tools and even a musical instrument.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm_ZRiWlI/AAAAAAAACVM/hbPbDZ5Tkgg/dinlligwy1.jpg
There were a few buildings in this settlement,
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgmwiE-rLI/AAAAAAAACUI/0Pc7L9okJWc/s512/charliellig4.jpg
including a workshop
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgmxi91wMI/AAAAAAAACUM/-qv7jfPMnHU/charliellig5.jpg
I'm sitting on the wall, can you see me?
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgmyrde_PI/AAAAAAAACUQ/0QyQ8Z4t1UQ/charliellig6.jpg
Can you see me now?
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgnAesBZ9I/AAAAAAAACVQ/NxGckUMZS94/dinlligwy2.jpg
My host took this photo from outside the "building".
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgnBApIE6I/AAAAAAAACVU/EGY2FthpguE/dinlligwy3.jpg
A closer look at us.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm8F7OU6I/AAAAAAAACU8/wZ63ScDCZCY/s512/lligwy1.jpg
This is the burial chamber, constructed before 3000 B.C., and was excavated in the early 20th century after the settlement. The capstone weighs 25 tons.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm85zRgCI/AAAAAAAACVA/Lhz6AsuGXCE/lligwy2.jpg
It is a big slab!
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm9hL5hgI/AAAAAAAACVE/ijbBX_R2Zwg/s512/lligwy3.jpg
My host's son was able to go underneath the capstone.

Harlech, Wales - 9th October 2010

By: miapearl

Hi Mummy,

Today, we have come to the historic town of Harlech where a castle stands atop a hill.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLjcq9rBzZI/AAAAAAAACWU/zViMg2U8Dvs/charlieharlech1.jpg
The view, had the weather and sky been nicer, would have been superb.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLjcrXrjeOI/AAAAAAAACWY/0Q5jjh_uBl8/charlieharlech2.jpg
The information board informs us that the castle was built between 1283 and 1289.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLjc3v3c2PI/AAAAAAAACXk/K6ec76ro0xk/harlech1.jpg
The main section..
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLjcrzG4zUI/AAAAAAAACWc/1sAGS0Wwf8M/charlieharlech3.jpg
We climbed up a tower
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLjcsXVAaBI/AAAAAAAACWg/iKmaafWYMlI/charlieharlech5.jpg
Somewhere over there in the murk, is Criccieth. There is castle on top of a hill. On a clear day, it can be seen.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLjctI0E93I/AAAAAAAACWk/nqgd5pF4WMI/charlieharlech6.jpg
There is an exhibition in the main section.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLjc4fPOViI/AAAAAAAACXo/bP2Bm564U_g/harlech2.jpg
Looks impressive on top of the hill. Can't have been easy to build.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLjc5MWgUEI/AAAAAAAACXs/vW0DjFkcJuQ/s512/harlech3.jpg
