Tallinn, Estonia - 11th August 2010

By: marcie08

Hi Mom!

Today we visited the famous Kadriorg Park! It is a wonderful place to spend nice afternoons. There is this great swan lake at the entrance to the park and also a wonderful cafe.
People go there to have a walk, a run or just sit on a bench and read a book. We also saw the President's residence. Then we went from this park to the sea promenade where you can find a huge monument.
We also visited the KuMu, a museum for art. We saw an exhibition and then had a bite to eat in the restaurant there.

So Mom, tomorrow we will go back to Helsinki and then we fly home!

Graz, Austria - 15th August 2010

By: marcie08

Hi Mom!

We are back at home now and of course we had a lot to do: There was the laundry, and giving away the souvenirs.
So we enjoyed our free time at home at the balcony.

You can see that our host mom has a small vegetable garden on the balcony. She has tomatoes there, cucumbers, beans, pomegranate, herbs, pepper, but also flowers.

We really like gardening and of course also eating the vegetables!

Graz, Austria - 18th August 2010

By: marcie08

Hi Mom!

Today we met new friends: Truska, a funny pink bunny, and Tigger, our host mom's own toyvoyager. Tigger is just here for a few days while his Mom is organizing a new host.

We talked about our travel adventures and they asked about our vacation. So we showed them some souvenirs, for exampel our Moomin postcards! They also really liked our Moomin cookie cutter

We also showed them the pictures of our vacation!

Caernarfon, Wales - 6th September 2010

By: miapearl

Hi Mum,

I have arrived in wet Wales. My host had just returned from walking her son to school to find that the postman had left two parcels in the porch. Returning home was Squizzle in one packet, and I was in the other.
My host's toys and visitors gave me a warm welcome

There's our nice engine.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP1CMblmAI/AAAAAAAACNQ/mFNWR2TO7VU/duselfest5.jpg
It has to go to the other end of the train now.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP1BRRXLVI/AAAAAAAACNM/vqWUOZ1-ahY/duselfest6.jpg
We popped into the shop. Do I like Thomas the Tank Engine?

Look at the raindrops on the window.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJP0fZdcVTI/AAAAAAAACMc/i253BRuBnXk/ffest3.jpg

Caernarfon Castle, Wales - 16th September 2010

By: miapearl

Hi Mum,
Today, we went to Caernarfon Castle. The Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJZr4nRB8dI/AAAAAAAACOg/-cHE_N_5kVk/duselcastle1.jpg
The castle lies on the Menai Straits and on the River Seiont. Those hills in the background are in Snowdonia.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJZr5MAlvdI/AAAAAAAACOk/hyN2nAzWXUg/s512/duselcastle2.jpg
The dais was used for Prince Charles' Investiture as the Prince of Wales in 1969.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJZr52b_vRI/AAAAAAAACOo/x7ionRgwQg0/duselcastle3.jpg
We've come round to the other side. We could have watched the video of the investiture.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TJZt4h5oooI/AAAAAAAACPE/ufsT2BoIGao/s512/tvcastle.jpg
Amazing castle.

LlanfairP.G. & Menai Bridge, Wales - 17th September 2010

By: miapearl

Hello Mum,
Today we jumped on some buses as we took my host's relative back to the station. We went on to the Isle of Anglesey to a well-known but not well-said village - Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-n5sSTLI/AAAAAAAACP4/bwDL-aHJ7cU/duselllanfair.jpg
We are 4241 miles from Miami, 3262 miles from New York....
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-osoLkWI/AAAAAAAACP8/Lv2v6SzuJIk/duselllanfair2.jpg
There is a station. The sign gives an approximate pronunciation of the name.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-pHQEIfI/AAAAAAAACQA/Yq3DYsd3OqY/dusellanfair3.jpg
After lunch in nearby Menai Bridge, we walked across the Menai Bridge which spans the Menai Straits.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-pvEl4aI/AAAAAAAACQE/bnfe1EY4yGo/duselllanfair4.jpg
There is a second bridge, the Britannia Bridge which also crosses the Straits.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-ypqrfVI/AAAAAAAACQs/TCLeWu5AnpQ/menaicache.jpg
On Menai Bridge, someone has placed a GeoCache. My host had previously found it one lunchtime and was on the verge of giving up....
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKY-qRZvMdI/AAAAAAAACQI/x5TbCWs6F6o/duselllanfair5.jpg
We then got to the "mainland" to wait for the bus to take us into Bangor and then for another bus on home.

Bryn Celli Ddu, Wales - 19th September 2010

By: miapearl

Hello Mum,
Today, we have come to see Bryn Celli Ddu. This started out as a henge but was covered to become a burial mound with a chamber. It dates back to the Neolithic period.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHVMrUbbI/AAAAAAAACSA/OgnN2-0Vzrw/duselcelli1.jpg
Below is the entrance.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHV99T2zI/AAAAAAAACSE/yRSBrY2CQws/duselcelli2.jpg
I think we can squeeze through that gap.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHWl0BEgI/AAAAAAAACSI/JyJ-pIyNRgM/duselcelli3.jpg
Here we are in the chamber
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHIGLEXTI/AAAAAAAACRA/If2YLHFqoN8/bryncelli1.jpg
In the photo below, just above Charlie B. is a letter from someone to a friend who died.

Llanberis, Wales - 25th September 2010

By: miapearl

Hi Mum,
Today, we had a GeoCaching day, in and around the Snowdonian village of Llanberis.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHXV_AEfI/AAAAAAAACSM/DzsI2hPsIXQ/duseldoc1.jpg
First off, was a walk around Coed Doctor, a community woodland.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHJp_1bdI/AAAAAAAACRI/6mLXPN_IeFc/coeddoc1.jpg
The first cache was easy to find.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHKVXCdDI/AAAAAAAACRM/iwTv4p8kcP8/coeddoc2.jpg
The second was easy to find but hard to get to - my host's son was put on to my host's husband's shoulders to retrieve the cache.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHLN1-2rI/AAAAAAAACRQ/j5zKE05EdrU/coeddoc3.jpg
And the third cache here was near the lake.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHMAnYeOI/AAAAAAAACRU/2Eg6zDCh6gA/snowdoncache1.jpg
The next cache was high up in the hills.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHNW3yBwI/AAAAAAAACRY/0UbUIvvQWbw/snowdoncache2.jpg
The cache is in the Snowdon View series.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TKZHOG98LnI/AAAAAAAACRc/eRX0kAKxcBM/snowdoncache3.jpg
Snowdon is visible in this picture.

Din Lligwy, Wales - 3rd October 2010

By: miapearl

Hi Mum,
Today, we have come back to Anglesey, to Din Lligwy. There is a Neolithic burial chamber constructed before 3000 B.C. Also, there is a Roman-British settlement of stone buildings, and the ruins of a medieval chapel.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgmzt6ZWNI/AAAAAAAACUU/DnVW-5pP8fY/s512/duselllig1.jpg
The chapel was built in the 12th century with some rebuilding in the 14th century and an extension in the 16th century.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm-oyRnpI/AAAAAAAACVI/XSfJwneSGwc/lligwya.jpg
Can you see me on the wall?
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm0DSnLwI/AAAAAAAACUY/v6bRj9O_zOY/duselllig2.jpg
There was a bell.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm1Fcn7SI/AAAAAAAACUc/tTEKfdtYE4I/duselllig3.jpg
You can see some of the North Anglesey coast.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm16PsXWI/AAAAAAAACUg/H2Pn2tqKz6U/duselllig4.jpg
We have come to the settlement. The site was excavated in the early 20th century, finding various things from the 3rd and 4th century including animal bones with some made into tools and even a musical instrument.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm_ZRiWlI/AAAAAAAACVM/hbPbDZ5Tkgg/dinlligwy1.jpg
There were a few buildings in this settlement.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm22Ai04I/AAAAAAAACUk/v4c7-cDc2ak/duselllig5.jpg
This was a large building.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgnAesBZ9I/AAAAAAAACVQ/NxGckUMZS94/dinlligwy2.jpg
My host took this photo from outside the "building".
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgnBApIE6I/AAAAAAAACVU/EGY2FthpguE/dinlligwy3.jpg
A slightly closer look at us.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm8F7OU6I/AAAAAAAACU8/wZ63ScDCZCY/s512/lligwy1.jpg
This is the burial chamber, constructed before 3000 B.C., and was excavated in the early 20th century after the settlement. The capstone weighs 25 tons.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm85zRgCI/AAAAAAAACVA/Lhz6AsuGXCE/lligwy2.jpg
It is a big slab!
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7ODftPSZPsY/TLgm9hL5hgI/AAAAAAAACVE/ijbBX_R2Zwg/s512/lligwy3.jpg
My host's son was able to go underneath the capstone.

It is dark outside, so we didn't make more photos. But I am sure that we will write more soon.

...on a big tractor.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A2010c/IMG_A202.jpg

Look - a beautiful plant and a lady beetle.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A2010c/IMG_A204.jpg

The autumn starts - the trees change their colors.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A2010c/IMG_A212.jpg

First I saw this little river...

...later a little lake.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/RikeH_2009/A2010c/IMG_A221.jpg

We passed a dangerous place - it is the house of the shooting club.
