on a pole near Parliament, Ottawa, Canada - 28th April 2010

By: Igatha

I was gently picked from my magnetized spot on a pole on Wellington Street, near the Parliament buildings in Ottawa.  I was tucked into a back-pack and stayed there for a whole day.  The next day I formally met my hosts, a nice couple who were visiting Ottawa for a few days.  They went on-line and read about ToyVoyager and the woman thought it would be fun to participate in my adventure.  And so my journey with Iggy and Cali began - wherever they went, so went I.  I went everywhere with them during the remainder of their stay in Ottawa (as you will see from the pics).  I will travel to their home-town with them and get to know their city a little before moving on and meeting new hosts - so far, so good!  I am enjoying this adventure!  I just hope my next hosts are as caring as my very first hosts!  (although I believe they are confused about my name - am I male or female? - does Thrud stand for something?)  Oh well - maybe they will find out!

My first outing was a walk through some woods including a boardwalk over a marshy area - this pic shows me with Iggy and her Ottawa friend who squired us all around for the day...

After our very pleasant walk, we went to the Diefenbunker museum.  Unfortunately it was closed - but we did wander around a bit to get a 'feel' for the place - must've been quite different during the Cold War period when it was built to protect the Canadian government !!  Maybe it was just as well we didn't get inside - I much prefer the great outdoors!

I stopped in at the Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa too.  I liked this display - the truck and house are more my size!  It was part of a diorama illustrating ground satellite systems.  I learned a lot while I was at this museum.

After a very busy day visiting various sites, we went out for a bite to eat at  a restaurant - this place was named for a well-known Canadian - a player, then coach and then commentator for the great game of HOCKEY!

And what better way to end the day then by taking in some culture - in this case it was a play put on by Ottawa's Little Theatre, a community based group that presented "An act of the Imagination".

We traveled along the world famous Rideau Canal.  Along the way were many flower beds filled with beautiful TULIPS ready for the festival.  There were all sorts of colours and the flowers were just my size!

Hard to believe that there is such scenery in the heart of such a large city - this is called 'Hog's Back".

The National Gallery of Canada was next on the itinerary...here I am with one of my favourite pieces of art...well OK, I know it's a reproduction, but don't you just love Tom Thomson's 'Jack Pine'?
