Bruchsal, Germany - 21st May 2010

Hi Mum,

I arrived at the place, where I will live for a while. Pinky Bear hugged me, when she saw me. She is really nice. She told me, that she will show me on the map, where I am now and then she will crawl in her package to come to you. I think, she's really excited, just as much as I am.
We shared that candy bar and it was yummy. My host said thank you for the bar and postcard.

Hugs, Brinda

Bruchsal, Germany - 21st May 2010

By: fam-united

My host said, that I brought sun to her home and she seems to be right. It is a really sunny evening.

Do you see that house on the left side with the interesting front? It is called Sancta Maria.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/4634432609_a3b34f0028.jpg

The house with the long roof is the music school, where my host, her daughter and her son take singing lessons. Maybe I will join them next time
:)

Here's a photo out of a window on the east side of the house. We can see the two towers of St. Peter church.

Bruchsal, Germany - 22nd May 2010

By: fam-united

It is a wonderful sunny Saturday and I'm happy to go out for a walk a bit, after my host had been in her bed all day, because she had a bad headache. It is still rather warm here.

At first I met the fisher of men.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4007/4634434533_41420feb21.jpg

St. Peter is a beautiful baroque church.

This is a view into one of the few streets with old houses. Peter and Paul guide the street.

Next to the church entrance I read this about the church:

There are some nice houses along our way.

My hosts like to go in this restaurant, especially in the beer garden
:)

Bruchsal, Germany - 23rd May 2010

It is Whit Sunday and my host's parents in law will come to have lunch with us. I helped cooking salmon on fennel and paprika wrepped in lufka - okay, it isn't really that special lunch for her father in law and also her mother in law, but all the others said, that it tastes really fine.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4018/4635036958_8e3f87ffee.jpg

Both of us had a knife.

In the late afternoon we went outside, because we wanted to drive to the Rhine and walk there. I found some more nice flowers, some horned or tufted pansy, in my host's garden, before we climbed into the car.

Philippsburg, Germany - 23rd May 2010

By: fam-united

The Philippsburg Nuclear Power Plant is located in Philippsburg in Karlsruhe, built in 1970 years. It houses two units. It's not all fantastic of course. They talk about illness here, especially leukemia, not sure, if it comes from the Nuclear Power.

The Rhine (German: Rhein) is one of the longest and most important rivers in Europe, at about 1,232 km (766 mi). Philippsburg is located at the Middle Rhine.

Bruchsal, Germany - 23rd May 2010

The spots of houses in the far belong to Bruchsal. Bruchsal is located at the edge of the Kraichgau hill country and the Rhine Valley.
The houses on the right side also belong to Bruchsal, they belong to a industrial area.

Bruchsal, Germany - 24th May 2010

By: fam-united

While my host's daughter is in the outside swimming pool of Bruchsal, we decided to have lunch at a restaurant. So we walked through the pedestrian zone of Bruchsal. On the left side I saw an old restaurant called 'Ratskeller'.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4051/4643785763_4f88f7a999.jpg

Walking on I saw the old city hall on the left side, which soon will be a shopping center and there is the city church (Stadtkirche Unsere liebe Frau - Our holy lady).

The maypole is a tall wooden pole erected to celebrate May Day. It may be a semi-permanent feature, standing in position year-round until it has to be repainted or replaced, or it may be a shorter, temporary structure. It may be decorated with several long coloured ribbons suspended from the top, festooned with flowers, draped in greenery, hung with large circular wreaths, or adorned with other symbols or decorations, depending on local and regional variances.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4065/4644401016_91f97053a3.jpg

I saw some nice clothes and perfume, but my host told me, that on Sundays and holidays like Whitsun Monday all shops are closed.

Here you see the old medieval keep, dated in 1358, next to it the Community Centre, built in the end of the eighties. It houses two halls, foyers, conference rooms, a restaurant, shops, an underground car park, the 'Badische Landesbühne'- theater, the municipal library, the tourist information and the adult education centre.

We took this photo at the same place, where we took the last photo of the houses near to our home. This time we only walked downhill. There are really beautiful houses.
We were on our way to my host's parents in law to have lunch together.

In the afternoon I enjoyed to lick this ice lolly:)
It's still really hot, but you already see some clouds behind me.

It's not as late as it looks like on this photo. Take a look at the next and you will still see a little bit of lighter sky. There's still thunder and lightning, but thank God, this time it isn't that bad.

Karlsruhe, Germany - 27th May 2010

By: fam-united

In the afternoon my hosts and I drove to Karlsruhe to do some shopping. They wanted to buy some books and cds - you wonder, why they still want to buy such things, because there house already is a little book and cd shop. Karlsruhe is about 20 km from Bruchsal.:)

They went shopping in a house, that's called Ettlinger Tor. There are many different shops in this shopping center.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4055/4647236724_9a5563ffba.jpg

Then we just took a few more photos of the place called Friedrichsplatz next to the Ettlinger Tor center. Here you see the Museum of Natural Science.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4046/4646621293_6d31699566.jpg

Behind the fountain is the entrance to the parking garage Friedrichsplatz, but you can't see it really well.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4646621419_439a878096.jpg

On the left side you see a part of the state library. In front of us is the church St. Stephan.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4068/4647236998_dbb6383c4c.jpg

I also took some photos on our way home: some houses, the castle of the brewery Höpfner, the tram.
