Acer Arena, Australia - 6th November 2010

Tonight we went to see Powderfinger, a great Aussie band who were playing their last ever Sydney concert. They're one Bec's favourite bands (and the creators of her favourite video clip of all time) and she was really excited that she and her friends were able to get tickets to this show.
Wanna hear them perform this song at the concert? Go here

Leura Cascades, Australia - 20th November 2010
By: becka_kate
Today we travelled up to the Blue Mountains with friends for a girls only weekend. No boys or kids allowed.
We took in the peace and tranquility of the Leura Cascades. Unfortunately we couldn't get to main Cascades thanks to the wet and rainy weather making the path muddy and full of huge puddles.

Echo Point, Australia - 21st November 2010
By: becka_kate
Here I am at the beautiful Three Sisters.
The legend behind their formation says:
Quote: | Long ago in the Blue Mountains there lived three little Aboriginal sisters. They were Meenhi, Wimlah and Gunnedoo, whose Witch Doctor father was called Tyawan.
Only one creature was feared by all – the Bunyip who lived in a deep hole. When Tyawan had to pass the hole, he would leave his daughters safely on the cliff behind a rocky wall. One day, waving goodbye to his daughters, he descended the cliff steps. On top of the cliff a big centipede suddenly appeared and frightened Meehni, who threw a stone at it. The stone rolled over the cliff and crashed into the valley.
Birds, animals and fairies stopped till as the rocks behind the three sisters split open, leaving them on a thin ledge.
The Three Sisters
The angry Bunyip emerged to see the terrified sisters. In the valley, Tyawan saw the Bunyip close to his daughters, so he pointed his magic bone at the girls and turned them to stone. The Bunyip then chased Tyawan, who found himself trapped, so he changed himself into a Lyre Bird. Everyone was safe, but Tyawan had dropped his magic bone. After the Bunyip had gone, Tyawan searched and searched for his bone – and he is still searching.
The Three Sisters stand silently watching him from their ledge, hoping he will find the bone to turn them back to Aboriginal girls.
As you look at the Three Sisters, you can hear Tyawan – the Lyre Bird – calling his daughters as his search for the lost bone continues. |
This is the Megalong Valley. You can kind of see from the blue tinges on the horizon why the early British explorers and settlers named this area the 'Blue Mountains'.
After the lookout we took a short bush walk, but again had to turn back thanks to the huge puddles left over from weeks of rain. Aren't these gum trees magnificent?

Just letting you know that I am safe and well. My host is in the middle of proofreading & editing 100 end of year reports for the grade she supervises at school and as soon as they're out of the way I will be able to use the computer to start my updates.
Get back to you soon - I promise!

Oprah's "Ultimate Audience" who she bought out here to film her Aussie shows were sitting right near us, just the other side of all those empty seats, and when she came out she sat here too!
U2 were pretty awsome as well!

(BTW - sorry not to be in the photos, but somebody forgot to put new batteries in the camera and had to use her iPhone instead! Apparently it is impossible without having 3 hands to photgraph toyvoyagers this way!)

Sydney Football Stadium, Australia - 17th December 2010
By: becka_kate
Tonight we saw Bon Jovi's Circle Tour (think there's a theme here - U2's concert was '360 degrees')
It was a great night, and luckily it stopped raining, so we didn't get wet.
Once again, Bec had to use the iPhone to get pics and so I'm MIA in these photos too! Sorry!
Such a gorgeous sunset behind the stage!

Martin Place, Sydney, Australia - 24th December 2010
By: becka_kate
Our last stop for the night was at the Christmas tree in Martin Place. This is Sydney's main tree site and is the biggest part of the city's Christmas decorations. This year the tree is 21 metres high with 58,000 LED lights, more than 300 stars and a 1500mm seven pointed shimmering tree top star.
Phew - what a busy day! Time to go home and get ready for Santa to come!
