Bochum, Germany - 24th December 2013

Hey Mummy,
it's the morning of the 24th December, so Christmas Eve is near, Mummy!!
In Germany, Christmas Eve is the most important day of the Christmas Time. It's a tradition that everyone opens their presents on Christmas Eve and people go to the church. I'm pretty excited
Well, Kate decorates the Christmas Tree every year on the 24th and I helped her, it was much fun!!
At first we stuck the chain of lights on the tree.
Then we had to put all the christmas tree decorations out of a big box.
I looked at all the lovely decorations and chose some nice decorations. Kate bought some of them in different countries, this one is from New York City, USA.
Oh Mummy, there were so many different and nice decorations!! Some were made of wood, some were made of glass
Tadaaa, this is the result!! It's a bit hard to see because of the sun that shined through the window
Merry Christmas, Mummy!! I hope you have a lovely Christmas time with all your beloved ones.
Big Love,
Orkku

HAPPY NEW YEAR MUMMY!!!
I wish you all the best for 2014, stay healthy and enjoy your life!!
Today I had a lovely walk around the "Kemnader See". The Kemnader See is a storage reservoir of the river "Ruhr".
The weather wasn't very nice and it rained but hey, it's winter, what did I expect?
The lake is very huge!! In the far distance of this picture you can spot something that looks like a small lighthouse, you'll see it better in the second picture. But that's not the end of the lake, it's much bigger!!
Well, in fact, that "lighthouse" is not really a lighthouse but a weather station. But it really looks like a real lighthouse, doesn't it?
As I told you, the point where this station is, isn't the end of the lake. Here you can see the view of the other part of the lake
Guess what happened when we went back to our car! The rain stopped and the sun came out!! And you know what happens sometimes when there's rain and sun, don't you? Right - a rainbow!! Oh it was so nice to see!!
Love,
Orkku

Bochum, Germany - 16th February 2014

Hey Mummy,
how are you today? I hope you are fine
Kate showed me the football stadium of the local football club "VFL Bochum" today The football club was founded in 1848, so "it's one of the oldest sports organizations in the world", well at least it's written in the internet, Kate couldn't tell me if it's true or not. The club colours are blue and white, that's why everything is painted in these colours.
This is the entrance to the VIP lounge and to the branch of the club, next to this entrance is the Fanshop where you can buy merchandise and tickets for the matches.
Well, Bochum is known for its mining history, so next to the fanshop there's a mining car with the emblem of the club and the words "Glück auf" which means something like "good luck". The mineworker used to say this.
Well, as I already told you about the mining history, Kate showed me the "German Mining Museum" ("Deutsches Bergbau Museum" ). It's one of the most important museums about mining worldwide. Aside from the normal museum you can go on the shaft tower and there's a recreated adit in in a depth of 20 meters which you can explore. The length of the tunnel is about 2,5km.
Bochum and the whole Ruhr Area were famous for mining and industry. In the past, there were lots of collieries and steel productions in the Ruhr Area. Most of the collieries doesn't exist anymore.
Oh, and good news: Spring finally arrives here in Germany
I love and miss you!!

Hey Mummy,
how are you today? I hope you feel good!
I've been to the Botanical Garden in Bochum today. It was so interesting!! There were so many flowers that I've never seen before in my life!! Unfortunately some heavy rain began to pour down while we were there but well, I could manage to take some nice shots anyways
Well, the botanical garden belongs to the "Ruhr Universität Bochum", it's a huge univesity here. The botanical garden was first opened for the public in 1971. It's a huge area!!
There were even some greenhouses. We started at the tropical house. Mum, you can't imagine how big the plants were! Oh it must be heaven to live in those trees.
I've never seen those flowers before. Don't they look wonderful?
Well, the next house was the Savannah house. It didn't look so awesome as the tropical house but the climate was much better for me.
Our next stop was the desert house with lots of cactuses. Oh there were some huge ones, wow! Pretty impressive. Mother Nature is stunning. I mean, look at the round cactus for example. Isn't it impressive how accurate and perfect it looks?
Inside of the botanical garden there's also a Chinese Garden which opened in 1990. Oh everything looked so lovely there There was a big pond, a waterfall, halls and pavilions.
I'll translate for you:
"Chinese Garden Qian Yuan
for the 25th anniversary of the Ruhr Universität Bochum
in cooperation with the Tongji University Shanghai
and the financial support of the foundation of the Sparkasse Bochum for the advancement of culture and science.
Built in 1990"
I even saw some koi in the pond
Well, that's it about my trip to the botanical garden. I had much fun, I learned a lot about plants and it was so nice to visit the chinese garden
Love,
Orkku

Dear Mummy,
I know that this blog is supposed to show some happy and funny moments of my life and I'm sorry that this post doesn't have anything to with happy things. But to be honest, life isn't always about fun and luck.
There have been some sad and bad things going on in the world recently. The missing MH370 flight from Malaysia, more than a hundred schoolgirls being kidnapped in Nigeria, earthquakes and wildfires in Chile and the tragedy of the sunken ferry in South Korea. There were more than 400 people on this ferry, 323 of them were students, innocent children who went on a field trip. Almost 2/3 of them are confirmed dead or missing.
I just want to take a minute and pray for the families and friends of everyone involved in these tragedies. It's the hardest thing in the world to lose a loved one all of a sudden.
Pray for those who are missing or dead. May their poor souls rest in peace and be blessed.
Mum, I love you. I can't tell it enough times. I love you.
Life is precious and people should tell their loved ones that they love them before it's too late, you never know what happens.

Hi Mummy
How are you today? I hope you are fine!
We took a walk through the woods today, the weather was pretty nice We had some rain the last days so it was very nice to enjoy some sunny hours
Spring finally arrived completely here in Germany, everything's so green and bright!! I always wanna run around outdoors, climb the trees and watch all the pretty flowers being in bloom
I found a nice small tree to climb on, can you spot me? Haha
Isn't it amazing how green everything is??
After some time we crossed a small stream. We stopped here to take a little break and relax a little bit.
As we moved on, we saw a house in the middle of the woods. It looks so lovely!! Guess it must be wonderful and peaceful to live out there, but it must also be a little scary to be so far away from everyone.
When we came home we were very hungry So we decided to make some food. Pancakes, simple but tasty
At first we gathered all the ingredients - 3 eggs, milk, sugar and flour.
We mixed the eggs, flour and sugar until it became one. Then we added the milk and mixed everything again.
Then we put the mixture in the pan and waited a little bit until we turned it around.
Et voilà! Here's a pancake Aaah, it was delicious!! Yummy yummy!!
I hope you have a nice weekend!!

Dortmund, Germany - 3rd June 2014

Hey Mummy,
long time no speak, how are you doing?
As the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil is going to start soon, I just thought I could show you the stadium of the football club "BVB Borussia Dortmund". This football club is very famous and well known all over the world. It was founded in 1909.
First let me tell you some things about the stadium: The name of the stadium is "Signal Iduna Park", Signal Iduna (insurance company) is one of the sponsors of the club.
When there are Bundesliga matches, the stadium has a capacity of 80.645 (24.454 of them are standing places for the "Yellow Wall", the fans on the southern terrace), so it's the biggest stadium here in Germany.
When there are international matches like the Champions League or World Cup then there's a capacity of 65.829 because the FIFA only allows seatings during international matches so they have to convert all the standing places into seats.
In 2006 the stadium was one of the venues for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Enough information, I'm gonna show you some pictures now It's pretty hard to take pictures of the stadium as it's huge and it can't fit everything on one single picture.^^
On our way to the stadium... As my host is a fan of the BVB there are some BVB cubes on the rear-view mirror
This is the lettering of the Signal Iduna Park:
I really tried to take some nice pictures of the stadium...
This is the Fanshop, you can buy EVERYTHING there from jerseys to binkies, plushies and garden gnomes
In the front you can see the stadium "Rote Erde" (red earth), from 1937 until 1974 it was the stadium of the football club, until the new stadium next to it was built in 1974 (Westfalenstadion, now Signal Iduna Park). The old stadium is now used for the younger BVB teams and other small sport events. Today were the "Bundesjugendspiele", an annual sport event for children and youths at German schools, that's why you can see some people there.
In the background there's the Signal Iduna Park. Isn't it stunning how different the stadiums are and how much bigger the Signal Iduna Park is?
Well, in front of the stadium is something like a "Walk of Fame" with plates for important people which are related to the football club. One of them is for the fans, isn't it nice?
As I couldn't show you a picture of the whole stadium I decided to show you a picture that I found on the Internet:
Well, that's it about the stadium of Borussia Dortmund.
I'm wishing you a nice day!!
Lots of Love,

Hey,
I arrived at BlackCat's house. Yaaay. Today we all watched the Eurovision Song Contest together. It's a song competition Europe has every single year. This year they had a guest country - Australia.
We had snacks and watched it for a while but then were tired.
The winner is this video here (CLICK). A really great song from Sweden.
