Castle Acre, Norfolk, England - 16th February 2011
By: LittleBlogFrog
Hi Mum,
We have been out to a very lovely village today called Castle Acre to see the
Castle Remains they have there. This ''Castle'' was founded in 1066 by William
de Warenne and it was his most important estate in Norfolk. Today it is in the
care of the English Heritage and a place you can freely visit at any time of day
(or night!).
About
Castle Acre Castle was originally an 11th century stone two storey fortified manor
house, built over a late Anglo-Saxon manor house. Founded by William de Warenne,
his son William, the second earl of Surrey founded the 12th century stone ringwork
and bailey castle. When he absorbed the Norman manor house, in the construction
of a high keep, encased by a bank and curtain wall, flanked by a gatehouse.
The large bailey is encased by substantial earthworks, with the foundations of stone
hall complex, a well-preserved length of curtain wall, the remains of two gatehouses
and a massive barbican.
This is the sign on the approach the ruins. It shows a sketch of the way the
castle would have looked originally (the building on the right circled by a wall)
There is alot of bridges to the ruins themselves as a huge (dry) moat runs all
the way around it.
Around the site, the walls are signed with the areas that would have been in
that location..
Here is the view from one of the higher points of the castle site.
Here is the view looking over the wall that surrounds where the original building
is/was....
...It was such a quiet place mum.. very peaceful and pretty
Well til next time,
Fidget x

Hello Momma!
Guess where I am??? I am in the States!!!!! I arrived in North Carolina today. It's located in the southeast part of North America. How cool is that? My host parents are from a city called Winston-Salem which is in the northwest region of the state. I am not sure what all this north south east west stuff is but I think Monica (host-mom) and Tealc (stay at home TV) will teach me all about it while I am visiting here.
I just wanted to let you know that I arrived safely. Tealc seems like a really nice TV. I think we can become great friends. Monica said she is going to be taking Tealc and I to her work for a visit here in a couple of days. YAY! My first outing here in the US. I can't wait to show you all the fun we are having.
Miss you bunches.
with lots of love

Wilmington, North Carolina, USA - 18th March 2011
By: atotalnobody
Hey Momma-
Guess where I am at?!??! I am at the beach! The sunny beach! It was a 4 hour ride in the car but it was well worth it. The first day of our 3 day trip we went to see Battleship North Carolina.
Moored in quiet dignity and majesty the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA, across the river from downtown Wilmington, beckons visitors to walk her decks. Envision the daily life and fierce combat her crew faced in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
'From all across our Nation they came, young men who had grown up in the crucible of the Great Depression and now determined to serve their Country in its time of need. These are the men whose stories you will encounter through their oral histories, photographs, and mementos as you experience the Ship and the exhibits.
Step back in time and let history come alive through the crews’ stories. Discover and build your personal connection by steering the ship, starting her engines or even firing the guns.' http://www.battleshipnc.com/
It was so cool to learn a little bit about the past history of this great ship mom.
I miss you much!

Momma!
Today is our second day at the beach. Unfortunately we haven't even been to the beach since we have been here in Wilmington. We have too many other sites to see then to go to the beach.
Today we went to a place on the downtown Wilmington board called the h. It just like it sounds.... serpents. Yikes! Snakes!!!!!!! Ahhhh!
I was a little nervous about seeing snakes but it was a fun learning experience. We even got to see some snakes being fed live bate. How gross! They also have alligators, crocodiles and iguanas here. Pretty dang cool!!!
Be advised mom these pictures are a little creepy. Good thing most of these creatures we won't find in the backyard.
love ya

Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - 6th December 2011

Hello Momma-
My host momma (Monica) moved to another area of town and I was put in one of her packing boxes. Up until the other day when she was looking for her winter clothing I was found. Monica sends her deepest apologies and will get to showing me around the town of Winston-Salem soon. Nici was in the box with me so we will both get to see more of Winston and have some stories to share with you especially now that the holidays are coming.
Again, Monica sends her apologies for not letting you know sooner what has happened to her poor babies, but most of her belongings were put in storage and only now does she have her computer and camera readily available for us to make memories with. I am excited Momma!
