Spijkenisse & Rozenburg, Netherlands - 17th August 2011

By: Paulette088

Hello!

Today we  made sushi with Paulette's sister Hanneke and a friend of Hanneke. We travelled to Paulette's parents in Rozenburg. That's a small village near Spijkenisse. We went to the busstop and waited for the bus. I had my own card, it's called an "OV-Chipkaart" and you can travel by train, bus, metro and tram with it. I hold mine very tight.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/IMAG0251.jpg

In the bus I looked outside the window. The bustrip was about 45 minutes, so I saw a lot!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/IMAG0253.jpg

When we arrived we started to make sushi, it was the first time we made it all ourselves. It was a lot of work, but so much fun!

Can you find me between all stuff?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/IMAG0254.jpg

After we finished cooking, the table was full of sushi. I tried the wasabi, that's hot!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/IMAG0255.jpg

After the sushi, we had a delicious pudding!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/IMAG0256.jpg

And after dinner, we had to do the dishes... Not my favorite part, I almost got lost!

Emmen, Netherlands - 28th August 2011

By: Paulette088

Hello!

Here I am again!

Last week I went to Emmen with Paulette, Koen and Tobbi, for a short vacation. We had a great time!

At first, we ate at a great Italian restaurant. We had a lot of really delicious food, like fish, meat, olives and fresh baked bread  :D

We had a great place outside, I played hide and seek with Tobbi. Because it was a bit dark outside, also the picture is a bit dark.

Emmen, Netherlands - 29th August 2011

By: Paulette088

The next day we visited the zoo. What a beautiful place! There are a lot of nice animals to see. Sometimes I even wonder if we were watching them, or if they we're watching us...

We saw this sign, I wonder if there are people that share icecreams with the tigers....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/DSC07237.jpg

I met this friendly green animal. He was just chilling in the heat at his home

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/DSC07405.jpg

At last, I said "hi" to this beautiful butterfly

All around Emmen, Netherlands - 30th August 2011

By: Paulette088

Today we made a trip with our bikes. It wasn't very hot, but luckily it didn't rain during our trip. We had a map that was made by other people, so we followed the route.

On our way we changed our route a little bit. There are lots of maps like this one in Holland:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/IMAG0268.jpg

It shows differents points in the neighbour. When you bike from point to point, you can follow the signs with the number of the point you want to go to. You can make a whole chain of points to create a route. At every point you can count how many km it is to the next point, so you can bike as far as you want!

After 42 KM we we're (very tired..) back at the hotel!

Spijkenisse, Netherlands - 9th September 2011

By: Paulette088

Hello!

I'm still doing fine!

I ate something really delicious.... Pannenkoeken!

Pannenkoeken are not only a Dutch thing, but the Dutchies eat them the most  :D

You can eat them with everything you like, we ate them with lots of sugar. Jummie!

At first you put what you like on it:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/IMAG0275.jpg

And then you roll it and then you can eat it like that or you can cut it in pieces:

Spijkenisse, Netherlands - 21st September 2011

By: Paulette088

Hello again!

It's me, for the last time from Spijkenisse!

I'm travelling to Germany, where Daniela is waiting for me!

I'm really excited to meet some new people and see some beautiful places! Also, I'm a little bit sad, because I had to leave Paulette, Koen and my new TV friend Tobbi.

I gave Tobbi a real big goodbye-hug!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/IMAG0285.jpg

And then I got into the envelope. Paulette bought a little gift for me, I could give to Daniela. I hope she'll like it!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/Althea-Deirdre/Nook/IMAG0287.jpg

And now I'm in the dark, travelling around in the Dutch mail system. I  hope I'll arrive safely!

Goodbye Holland!

Heidelberg, Germany - 23rd September 2011

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

That was a quick journey. I've arrived safely in Heidelberg and was still a bit sleepy when my envelope was opened.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dDbqiBcS9B8/Tnx8FpqkcwI/AAAAAAAAB5A/8ucnr0fgl9A/nook1.jpg

I was greeted by a friendly hedgehog who hopes to be the next one of this family to start travelling.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-_G48CHMxAUI/Tnx8Gnh3S3I/AAAAAAAAB5E/Xkg_f_lOZUE/nook2.jpg

I showed him the present I had brought from Holland. He liked it very much and my new host was also delighted and sends a big thank you to my former host Paulette088.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-FLa9F6qnGI4/Tnx8Hn68quI/AAAAAAAAB5I/ntI5kXIMNuI/nook3.jpg

When I had a look around the flat, I discovered this big cat who first frightened me a bit. But my host calmed me down and let me sit on the cat's back. He's called Sammy, by the way and mainly interested in sleeping and eating. He's very friendly.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-txsFmX-F4UE/Tnx8IpdmB6I/AAAAAAAAB5M/phnx3qQqaPs/nook4.jpg

They have a balcony here and as the sun was shining, I took a rest and had a look around. It's very green here, we're in the very south of Heidelberg, at the edge of the city.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-x_2Rj6mJZYA/Tnx8KCONmzI/AAAAAAAAB5Q/0SCM1QWylsw/nook5.jpg

My host told me she has the day off and I had hoped we'd go somewhere this afternoon but she said she hadn't slept very well and also needs to finish some tasks at home, so we're staying here. I discovered something interesting on the table and my host explained to me that she likes knitting socks while watching tv. What a pity they're not my size, I would have liked such socks.

Heidelberg, Germany - 25th September 2011

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

I'm sending you greetings and would like to tell you that I'm enjoying my time in Heidelberg.

Daniela had to work at the weekend and on Sunday I accompanied her. We went by bike and I sat in the front basket.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-vaPd9vsSCnY/ToAq52lm1TI/AAAAAAAAB8A/ZGAo7__wd8o/nook7.jpg

We passed some very nice flowers along the way and stopped so that I could smell them.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-HwzWjE3UhYk/ToAq4czPl3I/AAAAAAAAB78/mT_AGfE2hDA/nook9.jpg

Then we crossed a bridge near the station. I had hoped to see some trains but wasn't lucky.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5IRtbFapJJk/ToAq6yhj7DI/AAAAAAAAB8E/0vHHmKb2HQI/nook10.jpg

In front of Heidelberg's library there are some art objects which I found interesting. Can you spot me?

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-XHeOx61licw/ToAq71nC1XI/AAAAAAAAB8I/ViX-TINebwk/nook11.jpg

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-6DpXVw47o78/ToAq9niNSZI/AAAAAAAAB8M/LfCyB5iMB0g/nook12.jpg

Here's a close-up of me sitting on one of the objects:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-_BNXd_0BxNo/ToAq_u36VXI/AAAAAAAAB80/46ZdtTPlfSs/s512/nook13.jpg

Before we went to work we took a walk along the river Neckar, just behind the psychiatric clinic where Daniela works.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-oOiIAGrvbt4/ToArAyw1HAI/AAAAAAAAB8U/SKvDqUc0xzg/nook14.jpg

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yUSqASiprZ4/ToArCVq1IfI/AAAAAAAAB8Y/GBr0xoaGnoI/nook15.jpg

We passed an old stone with an engraved poem "Greeting the Neckar".

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4IRNKII11zs/ToArE-N1mBI/AAAAAAAAB8c/QPOE9rPWmyM/s640/nook16.jpg

I would have liked to swim but Daniela said it's too dangerous, so I just spent some lazy minutes very close to the water with the sun shining on my back.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OorEHHijK2o/ToArHQ5Be0I/AAAAAAAAB8g/-MbzWHBkO4U/nook17.jpg

Behind me you can see a small island, the big ships pass on the other side of that island.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-10JQ1xSDtx4/ToArI8B__WI/AAAAAAAAB8k/I493eQICKEQ/nook18.jpg

We just wanted to leave when I suddenly saw a little book lying there. We examined it and discovered that it belonged to a geocaching container. We also found the container and put the book back into it.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-gtKqEo4b7OY/ToArKlU3pEI/AAAAAAAAB8o/hFaGSxgmd3Q/nook19.jpg

Then I discovered a sheep hanging in one of the bushes. First we thought someone had lost it but then we saw that it had a geocaching tag around its neck and was a travelling bug. So we took it with us and Daniela said she'd either release it somewhere next time she travels or send it along with a TV.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9ZWxdM5fOr8/ToArMGyCroI/AAAAAAAAB8s/81e0ePXYDzY/nook20.jpg

Finally it was time to go to work. Daniela's colleague was sick so she was alone and happy that I was with her.  I helped her with the medicaments for the patients.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-culJ-YNyGFs/ToArNVX4cHI/AAAAAAAAB8w/JdKttIeMexo/nook21.jpg

Bye until next time. ... Nook

Heidelberg, Germany - 27th September 2011

This afternoon we made some muffins. Melek who will travel to Finland tomorrow also helped. First we made sure that we had all ingredients we needed.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-qDdHfbrPdJU/ToHULN57h2I/AAAAAAAAB84/ro0y0wxC64Q/nook22.jpg

The dough already looked quite tasty.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-OFyAG7sIAcE/ToHUME3a7qI/AAAAAAAAB88/aa3LgTUdRmI/nook23.jpg

We filled the dough into the baking dish.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-kESvj6OiOJ4/ToHUNLhLu1I/AAAAAAAAB9U/ONWQIjjZgA8/nook24.jpg

As the muffins were quite big, Melek and I shared one and also had a cup of tea. Hmm, that was tasty.

I had to say good-bye to Melek today and hope he has a good time in Finland. However, a new TV called Sooky has just arrived and looks like a nice companion. Daniela will take more photos later on but she has just discovered that her daughter obviously took the camera to school as she can't find it anywhere. Here are the "Good-bye, Melek" photos at least which we already took yesterday.

Schwetzingen, Germany - 28th September 2011

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

Daniela's working schedule changed, instead of working in the afternoon she will have to work at night. So I was lucky and visited Schwetzingen which is situated about 10 km away from Heidelberg. We went by bike and almost only cycled along fields which was really great. Our newly arrived TV Sooky accompanied me.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-vaX6ytNhaOc/ToNcJrMK3CI/AAAAAAAACBs/rY0847I2fyI/nook28.jpg

Here you can see me sitting in a huge cabbage (or something like that).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-x6FLLq6Mg6A/ToNcLmYRNEI/AAAAAAAACBw/AHeQ6V2Rwjc/nook29.jpg

When we arrived in Schwetzingen we passed these flags but I've got no idea why they are there.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VxcKMqT3XXU/ToNcM989L4I/AAAAAAAACB0/4UeLZZUlYlQ/nook30.jpg

This working scene is an art object in the middle of the town.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-KTRw6uItmmA/ToNcOQb5SQI/AAAAAAAACB4/YpLIZsxDKbY/nook31.jpg

Schwetzingen has a castle with a very large garden. Well, it's actually a park and it's really beautiful. So we went there and had a look around.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LTqkI1W0zwg/ToNcQc0S5rI/AAAAAAAACDQ/Gmm7o_scvzk/s512/nook32.jpg

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-i-j61i3LzmM/ToNcUEeHmlI/AAAAAAAACCE/BknZ_TXQM4M/nook34.jpg

I love the smell of flowers:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jhIadsk626c/ToNcVztAwhI/AAAAAAAACCI/lt4e0AKwiJc/nook35.jpg

Sooky and I are taking a rest at the fountain in the centre of the park.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PG1twg-dWwI/ToNcXRyCilI/AAAAAAAACCM/JwgmD74OiUE/nook36.jpg

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-cJNe8T2HM2w/ToNcZggQLXI/AAAAAAAACCQ/zRk3U1DY9tw/nook37.jpg

Here you can see the castle in the background, we're more or less in the middle of the park.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Wa0nRYCths8/ToNcbHdeVNI/AAAAAAAACCU/YfeDjCF_IKQ/nook38.jpg

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-9QdX9IzganQ/ToNccraI2OI/AAAAAAAACCY/D73Y4Q6UZz0/nook39.jpg

When we arrived at the lake in the back of the park, I saw some geese.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-YDsIhY3GOfo/ToNceP3JVFI/AAAAAAAACCc/pr5jkT_Yoj4/nook40.jpg

I found this bird's house interesting.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-a10pGdqmp4k/ToNcgk95JKI/AAAAAAAACDY/frSUgpG6Xbw/s512/nook41.jpg

This is a mosque which was built in the 18th century by Christians and was shortly used by Muslims in the 1970's. Now it's a museum and can be visited but we didn't have enough time this afternoon.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-tIvL1C7eI9M/ToNciDcY8XI/AAAAAAAACCk/FiJAjU10zJY/nook42.jpg

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-IhxXTrZeoH0/ToNcjw0STQI/AAAAAAAACCo/2YO49p-t1Go/nook43.jpg

Sooky and I are taking a rest among some leaves which have already fallen off the trees.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-LgVM0dJGjEU/ToNcl86ef5I/AAAAAAAACCs/rKERO8afHRc/nook44.jpg

That's quite a huge tree, isn't it?

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PQlPuhUW3tc/ToNcoPsXUpI/AAAAAAAACDc/OT8MYbl5GLU/s512/nook45.jpg

There was another fountain and I took a rest again.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-WU4tapPfSrE/ToNcp8jCpGI/AAAAAAAACDg/qLf93MnEcww/s512/nook46.jpg

I really liked these beautiful red leaves.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-3mxapxJUFPI/ToNcrQ3JOdI/AAAAAAAACDk/1vgrfoSUNss/s512/nook47.jpg

These bushes are cut in an interesting way.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Taun3hUqd8M/ToNctCxqABI/AAAAAAAACC8/tdEc861CMrU/nook48.jpg

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-sKPqR53R9vc/ToNcupWjenI/AAAAAAAACDA/_Gwl-ohk0-w/nook49.jpg

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-nJBZzPV2bD8/ToNcwG8ujzI/AAAAAAAACDE/kUtGlEKAV3U/nook50.jpg

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-RnFJG7A0rW4/ToNcxR9JOuI/AAAAAAAACDI/U-QWc_zM-sU/nook51.jpg

I like this photo, you can see the shadow of Daniela while she's holding me and taking a photo.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vWmMZD5L7kA/ToNczsl9SWI/AAAAAAAACDM/8rLFTr_sAqE/nook52.jpg

We had a very nice afternoon. Now I'll spend a couple of days relaxing at home while Daniela is working.

Dear Mum

Hi, it's me, Nook. Hope you're doing fine. I've made friends with Sammy. Do you remember him? It's the big cat who lives here. He actually had his 14th birthday last week. He dislikes other cats but he's very fond of huskies and we often talk to each other. The only bad thing about him is that he sleeps most of the time and doesn't even want to leave the flat. Sometimes he stays on the balcony but normally you find him on his blanket on the sofa. And you can believe me that he looses more hair than I do!

Heidelberg, Germany - 4th October 2011

By: nuriayasmin

Hello Mum

This morning we went to a shopping centre a bit outside of Heidelberg
We passed at some fields and I found this old-looking agricultural device quite interesting.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ONKiXUdxohI/TosVcYXXKfI/AAAAAAAACJQ/t9f83GAJOvY/nook56.jpg

Sooky and I enjoyed the warm autumn sun on a stack of wood.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-w9tdFVjg0Vg/TosY9nof0dI/AAAAAAAACKA/-G_yMszTxds/nook57.jpg

I also climbed on this stack.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-yxLBN1vyRqc/TosVUH69-EI/AAAAAAAACJI/GM9lsSii80Q/nook58.jpg

Here you can see an already harvested field which is ready for winter.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AM2Ol7RNzQc/TosVOuN5nlI/AAAAAAAACJE/ri3liAXOv8A/nook59.jpg

This is the shopping centre we went to.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-2ifAzwdvok0/TosVKaULZ0I/AAAAAAAACJA/tTUYyJuNZi0/nook60.jpg

On the way back we passed a paddock and this white horse came very close.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-tHya1K1Ufu4/TosVGGZqmxI/AAAAAAAACI8/_dCemwRIEzc/nook61.jpg

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IKSoX6oNs-4/TosVAK3DwXI/AAAAAAAACI4/-xt7e-0K5tw/nook62.jpg

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-O6CzdOU8J08/TosU7c2A3dI/AAAAAAAACI0/5GxBLBLssbU/nook63.jpg

There were more horses but they wouldn't come nearer.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-NNa6l2zJBpE/TosU1ZU7ByI/AAAAAAAACIw/K0GFGdPqyX4/nook64.jpg

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-BGjROa-VbXA/TosYaP8t6DI/AAAAAAAACJk/zywFAgtoVHY/sooky31.jpg

When we returned home a pile of postcards and three letters were waiting for us and it took us quite a while to read all of them.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-sRyOOJHIook/TosYVprDVaI/AAAAAAAACJg/mASLFhRn6k0/nook65.jpg

And guess what was the best? Another TV has arrived. His name is Rendolph and he's a reindeer. He brought some candies and shared them with us ... yummie.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9Rzpa-wQJbU/Tor8Wg-zuJI/AAAAAAAACIo/Y6FmEYJHc4w/randolph1.jpg

That's all my news for today. Bye.

Heidelberg, Germany - 10th October 2011

By: nuriayasmin

Hi Mum

I'm doing fine. Nuriayasmin will finish her night shifts tomorrow and then we have time to go out again. Today a new TV arrived. It's a ladybird called HelgaHH. She travelled all the way from Canada but originally comes from Germany, too. We were all very excited and gathered around the envelope.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-O_V6vInzucA/TpMR_MtL1MI/AAAAAAAACRA/BSC066QqxaM/s600/DSCF8455.JPG

Finally nuriayasmin opened it and HelgaHH came out and showed us the postcard and nice fridge magnet she had brought with her.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-QlMTnk26zW8/TpMSg7b3FoI/AAAAAAAACRs/jqd6aQEfqRI/s600/DSCF8458.JPG

Bye for now. I will soon write to you again.
