Heidelberg, Germany - 9th November 2011
By: nuriayasmin
Today DuDu and I strolled along the river Neckar and had a look at the Old Bridge which you can see on many postcards of Heidelberg. The castle is situated in the mountains over the Old Bridge but due to the fog you can't see much of it on the photos. We may climb up to the castle next week, depending on the weather.
Greetings,
DuDette

Heidelberg - At home, Germany - 14th November 2011
By: nuriayasmin
Dear Mum
I'm doing fine. It has become very cold here. DuDu and I started the day with a tasty (but not very healthy) breakfast consisting of a piece of cake and a cup of hot chocolate.
Then all TV's thought it would be good to learn an additional language which would help us while travelling around the world. Fortunately our host is quite a language nerd and gave us all her textbooks and grammars for Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Norwegian, Czech, Slovak, Russian and Japanese.
I decided to give it a try with Czech but believe me that's a pretty difficult language with a complicated grammar and words that are sometimes impossible to pronounce. Just try it with čtvrtrek which means Thursday. And I don't think I'll ever be able to buy icecream in Czech Republic because the word for it is zmrzlina. Czech language has 7 cases and as English doesn't use cases anymore (unless you count the 's of the Genitive case = my sister's daughter), the case system is very difficult to learn for us. German has 4 cases but nuriayasmin says even for her it's difficult to handle the cases in the Slavic languages. However, I learnt some sentences, I'd like to present you:
My name is DuDette: Jmenuju se DuDette.
I'm fine: Mám se dobře.
I'm from America: Jsem z Ameriky.
I like travelling: Mám ráda cestováni.
Have I told you that now there's another cat living here? Her name is Shelley and she's from the animal shelter. She's 14 years old like Sammy but looks older than him and also moves slower. And she's very small and thin, the poor one was abandoned. Today I finally introduced myself to her.
I helped nuriayasmin with some household tasks, for example getting the clean clothes out of the washing-machine.
When I had a look from the balcony I saw that it still looked very grey outside and was happy to be in a warm apartment.
I had Chinese noodles and orange juice for lunch which tasted very well. DuDu tried to teach me how to use sticks but it's really difficult.
Later on all TV's gathered and ate some of the Swedish cookies nuriayasmin had bought for us. We chatted and told each other about our languages studies. We also had a big cup of hot tea.
Afterwards we helped nuriayasmin to write some postcrossing cards. Each of us TV's was allowed to write one card. Mine went to the USA which made me a little homesick. I miss you :-).
Last not least it was time to sit down at the laptop and write my travelog update. I also enjoyed having a look at all the photos from home and my trips before.
Take care. I love you very much.
Yours DuDette

Heidelberg, Germany - 27th November 2011
By: nuriayasmin
Dear Mum
nuriayasmin had to work this weekend but she gave us TV's a plate full of chocolate, cookies and mandarins. DuDu and I admired the Advent wreath but we weren't allowed to lit a candle while nuriayasmin wasn't at home.
Bye, DuDette
