Vienna, Austria - 16th December 2013
By: Cessy
hello mum,
last weeks were very busy, have made several excursions. beginning of december we visited the inner city of vienna and the stephansplatz with stephansdom and christmas market
the HAAS-house
was designed by star architect Hans Hollein. the building is in strong contrast to the historic buildings in the center of the old city
window dressing of the famous cafe sacher
sachertorte (a specific type of chocolate cake, or torte, invented by Austrian Franz Sacher in 1832 for Prince Wenzel von Metternich in Vienna, Austria, it is one of the most famous Viennese culinary specialties)
yesterday we made a widespread walk in the surroundings of my hosters home to the marchfeldkanal
(watering canal und recreation-area)
beavers have cut this little trees
unfortunately we could not find such an animal but we could see one of their lodges close to the water
beautiful red berries
on the way to stammersdorf (part of the 21st district of vienna) across the acres
some harvested maize cobs, several grains remained for the animals (birds or mice or hamsters)
reaching the stammersorfer kellergasse (wine cellars, wine taverns), see me sitting on this big wine press
watching the crows in the trees
vineyards with view to the higt rise buildings of the nothern part of vienna
sitting on an old grapevine
stammersdorf with the church
it was a very fine excursion, the weather was great: blue sky, sun and mild temperatures
send you many greetings and kisses mummy

Vienna, Austria - 1st January 2014
By: Cessy
hello mum,
it is high time to tell you about my adventures at christmas and new year.
but first of all i wish you the very best for 2014
on christmas day i could help to decorate the christmas tree
see mum my fine red christmas cap
put the lights on
also on the lantern
unpacking the gifts
and then – surprise, surprise - my colleague in travelling, little patka came home from her latest trip to germany and brought some sweets for us
it was so fine to talk with her about our adventures.
i guess we became good friends
on the last day of the year my hostmums organized a fine new years eve party with fondue eating. i could help in making the mayonnaise dip.
here the most important ingredient for this dip: eggs
we had to separate the egg white from yolk
look mum, here you can see me with yellow, the little rubber bathing duck.
put the yolk in a bowl
mix it carefully with adding on some oil
then we added salt, lemon juice, mustard and a pinch of pepper. finished and ready to fill the dip in a small pan:
we prepared also other dips and side dishes, see how pretty the dining table was looking:
and then - at long last - we started fundue eating:
tasted so fine
in the first hour of the very new year we made lead-pouring.
it is a new years eve custom of telling fortunes by the shapes made by molten lead dropped into cold water
this is the piece i have created, what does this mean to my future? that i will be travelling out in the world for some more adventures? goodness knows …
this are the latest news from austria, mum.
will get in touch with you soon again.
in the meanwhile many greetings and kisses
yours
ducky
