Hosts' Home, Austria - 6th January 2012

... Afterwards, we played the probably most famous game in the world: Trivial Pursuit. Travel and I were a team because he translated the questions. We knew a lot of answers but in the end we lost. We still had a lot of fun!

Leopoldsberg, Austria - 11th January 2012
By: curious77
Hi mum,
Yesterday afternoon we drove to a nice viewpoint where we could see all of Vienna and its surroundings. Curious77 told me the names of the bridges and some of the high buildings. We wanted to take some pictures on the other side of the church, too, but a strong wind came up and so I felt safer in her pocket

Grinzing, Austria - 11th January 2012
By: curious77
...on our way back to the city, we drove through a quaint quarter of Vienna which is famous for its many Heurigen, Austrian taverns. The Buschen, the bunch of twigs, tells you that a Heurigen is open. Curious77 thinks the Heurigen in the quarter of Grinzing are open all year round because they are famous among tourists. Other Heurigen open for some weeks each year and serve only homegrown wine. Should I try red or white wine first?

Madame Tussauds Vienna, Austria - 14th January 2012
By: curious77
Hi mum,
Guess what?! We went to Madame Tussauds Vienna today! It was really cool to see so many famous persons - international and Austrian!
First we met two representatives of the former Austrian monarchy: Franz Josef and Sisi. We also saw Oskar Schindler. Then I took a look at a composition of Ludwig van Beethoven and spent some time on the couch of Sigmund Freud - not that I had any problems to talk about ;-)

Madame Tussauds Vienna (2), Austria - 14th January 2012
By: curious77
...we also saw the artist Hundertwasser (remember the incineration plant?) and the current Austrian President Heinz Fischer. Then we met some Austrian sports heroes, like Hermann Maier (also called Herminator) and former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger. Next to some other pop stars, we saw Falco, the famous Austrian singer who died too young.

By: curious77
...finally, I won't introduce these persons :-) another Austrian among them, who is not quite perfect but still has had an impressive life and career. It was a lot of fun to see the celebrities and interesting to learn something about Austrian history! Have a nice weekend, mum!

By: curious77
Hi mum,
There's a lot going on here! Travel is getting ready for his departure and we'll miss him lots! But another TV arrived today: Domino! Two dogs, I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun! We helped curious77 with some baking. She bought the pastry, but we used homemade currant jam from a friend. Delicious!!

Vienna, Austria - 24th January 2012
By: curious77
Hi mum,
We couldn't do much last week due to bad weather but Domino and I had fun at our hosts' home anyway. This afternoon we went to a very nice quarter of Vienna. We went to Museumsquartier, which houses several museums...I'm sure you can spot the museum of modern arts There are plastic couches in the yard in the warmer seasons and many people enjoy the sun between the museums. Just look at the strange lamp we discovered at a museum shop - poor fellow

Vienna, Austria - 24th January 2012

....just across the street, there are the museums of history of art and natural history, which face each other. Domino and I had some fun in front of the museum of natural history. Afterwards, we went to one of the biggest shopping streets of Vienna, Mariahilferstraße. We saw some nice dolls in a shop window. What a nice afternoon!

Hosts' Home, Austria - 5th February 2012
By: curious77
Hi mum,
Since it is the Fasching season (carnival), my hosts had a little fancy-dress party. The theme was "underwater" so I decided to dress up as a turtle....joking! I dressed up as a shell We helped our hosts decorate the flat and we ate some Krapfen (~ donuts with apricot jam). The guests had some very funny ideas....there was a Spongebob, Triton with some cute "tattoos" and a Titanic & iceberg. Those guys were really creative!

Hi mum,
Guess what?! It snowed yesterday. So today we took a little walk in the snow and enjoyed the sun at the same time. We even built a snowman :-)

Indoors & Outdoors, Austria - 12th February 2012
By: curious77
Hi mum,
I had a nice weekend! I'm glad you liked the last posts and my little trick with the costume ;-) A very special parcel arrived on Saturday morning. My hosts had ordered lots of bars for hot chocolate from Zotter, an Austrian producer. Here's some info from the website: .."In August 2007 Josef Zotter launched his new production facility in Riegersburg, the ChocolateFactory..... He is not only one of the few European companies which process cocoa directly, but also the only manufacturer who produces exclusively in ORGANIC and FAIR quality starting with the bean. In this way Zotter clearly positions himself against standardised mass production ...." The variety of flavours is incredible! We also had a delicious lunch and spent some more time outdoors. Have a good week!

Hosts' Home, Austria - 28th February 2012
By: curious77
Hi mum,
How are you? I'm fine. Domino left today, it was a quite emotional moment because we have become very good friends. He goes back home now. I'm already curious to find out who my next host will be, but I'm just fine here until I continue my journey. My hosts bought some books, including English ones, so I read a lot. And there's a birthday to celebrate this weekend and I'm quite sure I'll get a piece of a delicious cake

Hosts' Home, Austria - 5th March 2012
By: curious77
Hi mum,
I'm very excited!! My journey continues! I'm looking forward to meet my new host! Today was really my last day in Austria. I enjoyed my weeks here very much. I even made another encounter, the Rote Pelzerer (the Red Furry), who comes from the farm of a very good friend's aunt. A very friendly fellow. But now it's time to leave.... My hosts are very sad but they are also looking forward to see my next updates! I'll write again soon, mum!
