San Jose, California, USA - 22nd September 2011

Today Spiker and I went to work with Amanda. We got to play with the little girls she watches. We helped them build a puzzle, but we got a little hungry and might have eaten a few of the pieces... oops! Then when we got home we wrote out a bunch of postcards to people on postcrossing.com. Nice relaxing day

Morgan Hill, California, USA - 24th September 2011
By: amb167
Amanda forgot to send out the postcards yesterday, so Spiker and I sent them out for her this morning. I really hope everyone likes them! Then we went to Morgan Hill for a street festival. All over downtown they have these big mushroom statues that people painted. This one was painted with a Wizard of Oz theme!

Today was fantastic! It was gloomy in San Jose, and started to rain. So Amanda packed us up and we all headed to the beach! I'd never been, but it sounded really fun. We all realized we were pretty hungry, so we looked up a burger place and stopped in Monterey. It got good reviews online and it sure was delicious! They had bottle cap checkers on the table for you to play while you waited for your food. Spiker beat me, but that's okay I really liked all the pictures posted all over the walls! And the burger was so big, I could only finish half! We stopped by the restroom on our way out and saw this funny sign!

Since I have just been sitting on the shelf for quite some time, my family decided I should go on an adventure. So I am off to Switzerland, and then to Guinea! It should be quite the adventure!!!! Today I headed down to the post office, climbed into my envelope, and off I went! See you in Switzerland

Kissidougou, Guinea - 20th December 2011
By: poissonrouge
Guess where I am : in Guinea !
I flew to Conakry on Saturday, and I arrived in Kissidougou yesterday.
Today, I saw a pineapple in the garden. It is not big yet, just a little bigger than me.
Then, I went to the market. Try to find me in the shop !

I was so excited I completely forgot to tell you : I did something very adventurous : cross that bridge ! It was great fun, even if I was very afraid of falling in the water. Some say there are crocodiles in there. I want to meet a giant reptile, but not from the inside !

Look at this bridge, it is even more dangerous than the one yesterday !
After crossing it, it went always up, up, up. I climbed a whole mountain. It was VERY hot and the slope was VERY steep, and it was VERY exhausting... But it was worth it : the view on top was great.

Did you find me two days ago in the shop ? If no, here is a clue : I love green things.
Today, I saw a lot of other green things : trees and flowers.

Banama, Guinea - 23rd December 2011
By: poissonrouge
We went to another beautiful place : a waterfall near the little village of Banama, away in the bush. For visiting there, you need two things : a very good car, and a very good driver. Sometimes, there are no bridges where there should be one...
Speaking of bridges : we crossed another interesting bridge...but this time, I will let Das Schweinchen show you.

I want to show you everything about water.
Here, there is a well. Then, you can pump water in the water tower. And then, before drinking it, you have to filter it. It was easier in my hometown !

Kissidougou, Guinea - 25th December 2011
By: poissonrouge
Happy Christmas !
Today, we first noticed that there was tap water ! A good thing on a celebration day.
Then, we received new clothes, like everyone for Christmas.
After that, someone told us that there was diesel oil in town. We hurried, but we were too late : the truck just before us received the last drops.
So we went to church (late...). There was a lot of singing, and then the pastor spoke about the birth of Jesus, and then we ate a lot of rice all together : that is 747 people.
Next week, I will probably not be online : we are travelling in an area without Internet. So have a happy new year !

Kissidougou again, Guinea - 26th December 2011
By: poissonrouge
We tried to go to Macenta... but the car broke down after 20 km. We could make it back home, very slowly and with a lot of noise, and the car could be repaired in the evening. We'll try again tomorrow !

Macenta, Guinea - 27th December 2011
By: poissonrouge
The car went well today, and we made it to Macenta. But there : another problem : we had planned to go further tomorrow, but the diesel oil crisis is not over yet : impossible to find it anywhere in the country. But in Guinea, nothing is impossible if you have friends. Poissonrouge has a friend in Macenta who has a garage, and could find the diesel oil that we needed !
Then, I played outside with Das Schweinchen and Wolley.

N'Zao, Guinea - 28th December 2011
By: poissonrouge
First thing in the morning (after breakfast, of course : mmmmh, yummy mango jam) we visited a hospital. I loved the bell : it was an old bomb. Yes, a real bomb ! There are a lot of bomb bells in Guinea, especially in churches.
Then we headed south. It is maybe not THE rainforest, but it certainly is a jungle. It was a very nice trip.
Now, we are staying near another hospital for the night. Tomorrow, we will try to see... a very special animal. I will not tell you more.
