Kali was thrilled to go fossil hunting with the host family! They examined many pieces of shale, to see if any had fossils embedded. Kali was fascinated with all of the interesting looking trees and roots. There were minnows and little crawdads in what was left of the creek, and they also saw frogs, a toad, deer tracks, an inch worm, and a skink!

Kali enjoyed today's brief downpour that cooled things off for a bit, and got out to enjoy the sunshine and puffy clouds before it heated back up!

Today, Kali visited the community corrections garden on the town square. It's a series of garden boxes built in a vacant lot and maintained by people who are in community corrections, as a way to help care and give something positive back to their community. Kali admired the cantaloupe blossoms and even found a little melon!

Kali learned that the melons she was looking at in the garden yesterday are expected to grow into big, beautiful cantaloupe like these! Yum!

Kali tried to help water the garden, but it was difficult, since the pump is so big, and she is so small. She checked on the little tomatoes and was delighted to see that some are ripening nicely!

Kali was jumping for joy to go to El Charro to see what Mexican food is like. The vegetarian fajita nachos certainly looked and smelled mouth watering!

Kali was thrilled to go on a road trip with the host family and the other TVs today. These photos were taken in the car, somewhere around Paola, Kansas, on highway 169!

Todays voyage took us geocaching. We found our first geocache in a strip mall and Kali was very curious to see! The next one took us down a bike path and into the woods. We never did find it, but it was a lovely walk, and Kali spotted some bat houses. Kali and the other TVs enjoyed a rest break on a shaded bench.

Kali had so much fun at art lessons with Lydia today! She enjoyed watching the kids learn about watercolors, then watched as Lydia worked on a crocheted dolly! She also liked Lydia's 'step stool.'

Kali went to the Allen County Fair today! Her first stop was the barn yard. She thought the cows were HUGE! She liked the yarn spinning display and thought the little guinea fowl were adorable. And what a sweet surprise, to be kissed by a baby bunny!

In the indoors section of the fair, Kali learned about the Wizard of Oz, thanks to this year's theme. She enjoyed seeing the exhibits, especially a dolly, made of cloth, like her!

It hit 112 degrees today (44 celcius), and the heat wave has been going on for over a month. Host mom took Kali to the river to show her how dry it is, and they saw the crops withering in the fields.

Kali didn't travel very far today, just to the mantel. The kids told her that their father used to work for Ivan Smith furniture and he gave them that truck. The little duck figurine was given to them by grandma, who drinks Red Rose tea, and host mom remembers that when she was a little girl, she had dozens of these figurines that came as freebies with Red Rose tea that her mother would drink.
