Barcelona, Spain - 24th September 2011
By: anxova
Bonjour maman! Hello mum and everyone!
How are you?
Today we went to have my first impressions of the city!
Força Barça!!
Look at this, isn't it funny?? they are drawings by Kukuxumusu, a Spanish company specialising in clothing and product design...My host told me its designs are distinctive for their style and humour!
Next to this shop I see a Cathedral that I thought it was quite ugly...But @Anxova told me to wait to see inside!
She told me this is The basilica of Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona, one of the most perfect examples of Gothic style architecture due to its harmonious proportions and the serenity of the ensemble. And it was the place of worship for merchants and shipwrights of Barcelona.
OMG!!! Its facade is made up of many straight lines and it doesn’t seem to inspire too many emotions, huh???However, inside...it’s soooo amazing!!!!!!! these simple elements transmit a huge feeling of grandeur!!
@Anxova told me the church’s interior inspired Gaudí when he was designing the Sagrada Família!
Santa Maria del Mar was built in 55 years!Whaaat??? I asked...How was the church so fast built????@Anxova told me unlike the vast majority of churches built around this time (1329-1383), it was built by Barcelonian people!!!!!!
Barcelona citizens participated actively by both giving money and carrying stones during long hours to built this wonderful piece of architecture.
That's why on the main doors of the church,I could see the images of workers carrying stones on their backs, in commemoration of the guild members who personally helped to transport the heavy stone from the quarry to their new church.
And I didn't know but, also, this church inspired great stories like "The Cathedral of the Sea" by Ildefonso Falcones. And also,it is mentioned in the novel "The Angel's Game" by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.
Definetely, it's the most beautiful cathedral I've ever seen!!!!
What do you think? Do you like it??
And after this cultural day, nothing better than a football match...Today: FCBarcelona-Atlético de Madrid! Força Barçaaa!!!!
Good night mum!
See you soon!
Take care,
Mush

My first working day
Moi!
After resting one day I had my first working day. My host thinks it is a perfect weather for cycling: Lots of snow and -20ºC. So, we cycled to work...
First we were sitting 3½ hours in a meeting and my host decided to knit me a scarf. Good decision!
Later we were doing what my host normally does at work... Quite many Angry Birds! Actually, they are not at all angry but very kind. We had very nice time together.
On the way back to my Finnish home I was quite warm in my new scarf. Bravely I was sitting in front of the bicycle and watching the views. I agree: perfect weather for cycling!
At home I wanted to write a postcard to mum... I will write soon, again. I love you, mum. (Rakastan sinua, äiti!)

Next my host wanted to show me her favorite gardening shop, Viherlandia.
Outside it was snowy and icy, but inside we found Cafe Eden and had coffee with a cake called Runebergin torttu.
After that I had a chance to talk wit the parrots Kalle and Torsti.
"Terve, terve" = Hello, hello!
"Mitä kuuluu?" = How are you?
"Osta kukka!" = Buy a flower!
Despite the cold weather i felt like I was in the middle of a rain forest. I saw beautiful flowers and plants. I met mermaids, gnomes, chicken... I saw bird houses and all kinds of decor for inside and outside. My host does not have a garden but she grows all kinds of flowers and herbs on her balcony. Summertime, of course. She told me that last summer was "The summer of yellow flowers" and this year she will have green summer. At the moment everything is so white...
I also saw some Finnish design by Iittala (colorful glass) and Moomin figures. It is forbidden for an elephant to enter a glass department but moose are allowed!

Moi!
My adventures in this white and cold country continued today in the harbor of Jyväskylä. The lake is frozen and covered with snow but the boats were still there. Waiting for free waters and summer. But it was beautiful!
Sometimes it is good to spend some time inside. That´s what we did next. My host was invited to a Tupperware home party and I followed. There I had a chance to meet a very sweet TV pig Roos. And she is also from Belgium! We went bananas!!! The world is small.
Hyvää yötä! = Good night!

Moi!
Today it was the coldest day: -26ºC. My host thought it was too cold to cycle. So we walked! In the morning the sun was shining and in the evening we walked in the moonlight. Mum, it is so wonderful! This is a real winter wonderland.
Here are some photos for you!

Moi!
Today felt different... What was going to happen...
Was it the sunshine? No, it was the mailbox: A new ToyVoyager arrived and I met Sooky. I wonder if Sooky is cold...
See you, mum!
