Alnwick Gardens, England - 3rd September 2012

By: Snamoen

Hi Mum,

Today was a fun day.  We went to Alnwick (pronounced Ann-ick) and explored the gardens of the stately house, which was created by the Duchess of Northumberland, and is a big tourist attraction now.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070927400x300.jpg

This is the Poison Garden - there's all sorts of poisonous plants here.  You can only go inside if you join a tour, and the really poisonous plants are in a cage.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070863400x300.jpg

There's a pretty little pond in the gardens as well, with lots of wildlife - especially ducks!
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070870400x300.jpg

Then we walked through a cherry orchard - it's the biggest orchard of its kind in the world.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070875400x300.jpg

This is the Ornamental garden, full with beautiful plants.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070885400x300.jpg

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070879400x300.jpg

Then we took a stroll through the rose garden.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070892400x300.jpg

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070897400x300.jpg

I also managed to get lost in the bamboo labyrinth!  It took me about 20 minutes to find my way out again...
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070902300x400.jpg

Then we saw a honeybee observatory - we could see the honeybees busy at work.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070911400x300.jpg

Don't these grapes look delicious?  They're used to make local wine.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070916400x300.jpg

This tree-house is actually a restaurant!
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070932400x300.jpg

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070942400x300.jpg

And you have to cross this swing bridge to get to it!
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1070939300x400.jpg

Love,
Mefito

Beijing, China - 12th September 2012

By: Snamoen

Hi Mum,

You'll never guess what - I'm in China!  We started traveling on Monday, and we arrived in the afternoon on Tuesday.  We're still pretty jetlagged, but that didn't stop us from going to see the Great Wall of China!
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150242400x300.jpg

To get there we had to walk up this street, which is full of stalls and people trying to get tourists to buy their souvenirs.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150255400x300.jpg

Once we were on the wall, the view was amazing.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150213400x300.jpg

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150219400x300.jpg

This massive pot was used to store oil in, so when the guards spotted an attack, they could raise the alarm by setting the oil on fire (like in the Disney movie 'Mulan').

It was such a great place to see!

Beijing, China - 13th September 2012

By: Snamoen

Hi Mum!

Today we went to see the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150290400x300.jpg

Originally, there were only seven of these stones, and they represented the seven peaks of Taishan Mountain, which was used as a place to prayer in ancient China.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150280400x300.jpg

Here you can see the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150298400x300.jpg

The hall was surrounded by quite a few other religious buildings.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150313400x300.jpg

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150316400x300.jpg

One of the Emperors had this door built, as he was 70 and his health was declining.  However, he didn't want his sons to become lazy and always use this as a short cut, so he made the law that you could only use this door once you had reached 70 - hence the name of it; the 70-year-old-door.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150328300x400.jpg

And finally, here you can see me in front of the Imperial Vault of Heaven.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150336400x300.jpg

Hi Mum!

Guess where I was today!  Can you guess?  No?  I was at the Forbidden City!
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1150500400x300.jpg

It was used as the Imperial Palace for over 500 years.

In total, 24 Emperors lived here.

It's so big!

The whole place is over 960m long!

Hexham, England - 27th September 2012

By: Snamoen

Hi Mum,

We're all slowly recovering from the jet-lag.  Well, when I say 'we' I mean hostmum!  Us TVs haven't been affected by it too much, but hostmum sure is sleeping weird hours!  So while she's recovering, we've all been having fun with the stuff we bought back from China.

Can you guess what this is?  It's a hat!
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1160027400x350.jpg

And this is some tea that hostmum bought back - it's very tasty.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u474/Snamoen/P1160029400x300.jpg

And of course, we had to bring back something yummy to eat.

Frankfurt am Main, Germany - 8th April 2013

By: kleinerGiftzwerg

Hey mum!
It´s me Mefito. I am really sorry that you didn´t hear from me for so long.
I was a long time in the dark envelope.
But then my new host-mum opened it and now I can finally see my new home.

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/mefito/DSCN5536640x480_zps7a477643.jpg

Here are many other plushies. A pink monster, called Ui and a turtle with a big head, called Pauline, were the first who welcomed me.

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/mefito/DSCN5539640x480_zps7e8dee6b.jpg

Mum, you know what ?
I met another skunk. His name is Stinkfi and he looks just like me. Okay he is taller but he could be my brother.

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/mefito/DSCN5542640x480_zps907370b3.jpg
http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/mefito/DSCN5540640x480_zps7569ef8e.jpg

I write you tomorrow!

Frankfurt am Main, Germany - 27th April 2013

By: kleinerGiftzwerg

Hey mum!

We went for a walk in the forest. But not only to enjoy the woods. We were looking for some Geocaches.

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/DSCN6086640x480_zpsd97ad59e.jpg

We arrived a little pond. The "Tiroler-Weiher".
Pretty small and pretty dirty. But the atmosphere at this place is beautiful.

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/DSCN6092640x480_zps068330b9.jpg

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/DSCN6099440x640_zpsa1f2b40a.jpg

We found a statue of the "Grüngürteltier". That´s the mascot of the large forest in Frankfurt.

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/DSCN6097640x480_zps172cee7d.jpg

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/DSCN6093640x480_zps894a6a96.jpg

A few steps further we found another statue of this animal.
This one "guarded" a little viewing point.

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/DSCN6100480x640_zps31f21175.jpg

After a few hours in the forest we started to find our last cache for the day.
I got it!

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/DSCN6091640x480_zps5da76928.jpg

Love and kisses,

Mefito

Frankfurt am Main, Germany - 2nd June 2013

By: kleinerGiftzwerg

Hello mum!

I went with my host-mom in the old part of Frankfurt.
In the center point of the town.
Here I saw two of the famous sights.

At first the St. Paul´s Church, "Paulskirche".
http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/mefito/hnfgnfg_zpsd59d6173.jpg

Today the church is no longer used as a church. Now you can visit some displays or go to little events.

The next stop was the "Römer". One of the most important landmarks in Frankfurt.
Its´s a "Standesamt".

http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/mefito/sergwseg_zpsd6965a8c.jpg
http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t396/kleinerGiftzwerg/mefito/sgsrhth_zpseb30a2d0.jpg

Across from the Römer you can see these old houses.

Today we took a little walk and go the "Main" River.
From a bridge you got a wonderful view of Frankfurt´s skyline.
