Wörlitz, Germany - 19th January 2012

By: Králi

Today my Mom showed me some nice places in the English Grounds of  Wörlitz. It is one of the first and largest English parks in Germany and continental Europe.
I went to the castle, the ferries and the huge church. I think it looks more beautiful in summer when the trees are green.

Today I saw the first snow in my life. But it didn't stay.
Everything is still green outside.

Today I went out to our garden. I gave some food to the birds, but I think they don't need it. It's so green outside. There are colorful flowers! This is not normal for January!!! I like our garden, but I prefer to be there in summer.

Heidelberg, Germany - 1st February 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

Greetings from Heidelberg. I've safely arrived here. I heard some whispering voices, then my envelope was cut open and when I dared to take a look outside, I saw three friendly and curious TV's.

Ohkwari took me in her arms at once and cuddled me.

Remy was very interested in the sweets I had brought with me and we shared some delicious chocolate.

Kazumi opened the window and we had a look outside.

And guess what? They have two rabbits here. They look a bit funny, though because their ears are hanging down. Krümel shared his food with me. His mother Lola is currently sick and needs to be fed by hand.

Keep fine,

Heidelberg, Germany - 5th February 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

Hope you aren't worried because you haven't heard from me for a couple of days. I'm doing fine but we can't do any sightseeing at the moment because nuriayasmin is working night shifts. Remy and I accompanied and helped her. She's a nurse at a psychiatric clinic.

We had to prepare the medicaments for all patients for the next morning.

It's not uncommon that patients have drunken alcohol when they come to the clinic. This appliance is used to measure to alcohol level of the breath.

The ward is responsible for receiving all new patients who come as an emergency, normally because they are psychotic or suicidal. The doctor on duty calls us before he brings a new patient. Last night we had just one admittance and it was rather quiet.

Here we put all documents in the appropriate stacker. Those of the three doctors are usually the fullest.

I liked these tulips in nurses' sitting room. They reminded me of spring which will hopefully come soon.

Behind me is the ward's entrance door. It's always locked and it's not uncommon that patients are brought by the police who don't want to stay. Very often it's possible to talk them down, convince them to take some medicine and stay but aggressive behaviour happens and therefore all nurses and doctors are trained in self-defense techniques and know how to hold a patient without hurting him.

We have to do one more night shift and then nuriayasmin has 10 days off and we hope to do some interesting activities.

Keep fine.

Heidelberg, Germany - 7th February 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

It's me again. We TV's stayed at home and nuriayasmin only left shortly to take Remy to the post-office and go to the supermarket. She's still a bit tired from the night shifts and her daughter also stayed at home today because she has caught a cold.

Well, I'd like to introduce Sammy to you, nuriayasmin's big and friendly cat. Here he is:

There's another cat living here, a small black female one called Shelley but she doesn't like to be photographed and today she spent all the time lying in bed with nuriayasmin's daughter.

Tomorrow we plan to take a walk and nuriayasmin knitted a scarf for me so that I won't freeze.

In the afternoon it snowed a little and I had a look from the balcony.

Keep fine and until tomorrow.

Heidelberg, Germany - 8th February 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

Today it was a bit warmer, the sun was shining and there was no more snow, so it was a perfect day to take a walk. After nuriayasmin's Tai Chi lesson we walked through the city centre and along the river Neckar.

This is Heidelberg's main street. Normally it's quite crowded with tourists but today it looked pretty empty.

This is the Town Hall:

And the Church of the Holy Spirit:

This is the gate which leads to the Old Bridge:

I sat down next to the Bridge Monkey, a sculpture from 1979. In the 17th century there had already been another bridge monkey.

A look from the Old Bridge, the castle is on the right.

A look down the river Neckar after we had crossed the Old Bridge.

The Old Bridge:

There was some ice on the banks of the river:

Can you spot the swans and the castle in the background?

More ice on the river:

I liked this house. It actually looks prettier in reality than on the picture:

Ohkwari, Kazumi and I rested a little on the banks of the Neckar.

Behind us is part of the small nature reserve we walked through:

Me studying the information table:

Taking another rest. There's a little creek behind me but I think it doesn't look like one on the photo:

Now we're getting closer to the monastery of Neuburg.

The monastery was built in the early 12th century. There's a small shop where they sell wine and fruits from their estates.

Such a beautiful sunshine.

One of the old towers:

Looking down on the river Neckar. The bus stop was down there and we took the bus back home.

It was a great day. Hope to see more of this region.

Heidelberg - At home, Germany - 10th February 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

I convinced Shelley the cat to take a picture with me. She wanted to borrow my scarf and I gave it to her. She likes to sleep in front of the heating and I took the chance to place my sleeping bag next to her and have a nap. It was pretty warm and cosy.

Keep fine,

Ludwigshafen - Wildpark, Germany - 12th February 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

Nuriayasmin showed me your message. I'm glad you're happy about my adventures and like my photos. I miss you but everything is so exciting here. Today Kazumi, Ohkwari, Coco Presley and I went to a small nature reserve in Ludwigshafen. We had to take a bus, a train and another bus to get there.

We saw a lot of deers. If you look carefully, you may be able to spot them on the left side of the picture. Unfortuantely they didn't come nearer.

This horse was more curious but the photo is a bit blurry.

Another horse was hungry and ate hay.

The boars had two very cute babies who were born only a very short while ago.

The lake was totally frozen and covered by snow, it was a fantastic feeling to sit on the ice.

These geese also walked on the lake.

However, it was very cold and so I was happy when nuriayasmin offered me some hot tea.

More deers in the background.

Before we returned home, we all rested a little in the sun.

Have a nice week.

Heidelberg, Germany - 14th February 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

The weather has become absolutely ugly. It's cloudy and we have a mixture of snow and rain. Kazumi is preparing for her first journey. She's leaving us tomorrow and will stay with a host in the north of Italy. We had a look on the map to see where exactly she'll be going and then she tested her envelope.

Keep fine,

Heidelberg - Botanical Garden, Germany - 20th February 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

Spring is in the air. The past couple of days were quite rainy but nuriayasmin had to work, anyway. Today she had an appointment at a clinic because her daughter needs to have her wisdom teeth removed. Coco Presley and I accompanied them and strolled through the Botanical Garden on our way back. The Botanical Garden is one of the oldest in Germany although it's not very big. However, its history can be followed back to the year 1593 when one of the medical professors of the university of Heidelberg started a medical garden near the castle. Nowadays the Botanical Garden is situated in Neuenheimer Feld where most of the clinics are also situated.

As it's still winter, there wasn't much to see outside:

However, inside we saw a lot of interesting plants from all over the world. Especially the cactusses were very impressive.

Hope you like my pics. Tomorrow another TV is likely to arrive, I'm already very curious.

Bye, Králi.
