Homburg/Saar, Germany - 2nd April 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

Today we went to Homburg, a small town in the German state of Saarland. As nuriayasmin is very interested in history, she wanted to visit the ruins of the fortress Hohenburg.

We stayed at the youth hostel which was very modern and comfortable.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-GEEZe6vY6xk/T3yyVv5HimI/AAAAAAAAMmA/arLo8r7-anU/s512/DSCF0766.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-iW37bJo1LMo/T3yx9MHgokI/AAAAAAAAMks/3CSWElyeyWo/s512/DSCF0633.JPG

There's a hotel near the fortress and I met one of its employees:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-SKabKElxNvY/T3yx_wFakeI/AAAAAAAAMk0/zoTd1PrILNE/s512/DSCF0645.JPG

Hohenburg Fortress was built around 1200 and destroyed by the French in the early 18th century. Walking through its ruins still gives one an impression of how huge it once was.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TK1k5RjA7tw/T3yyMCJ7ArI/AAAAAAAAMkc/PNJCaIam1ao/s600/DSCF0709.JPG

And I saw something which was even older than the fortress - much older actually: the fossil of a dinosaur. Hope you can recogneize a bit of it on the right of the photo.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GqpYsLLuuI8/T3yyHVEp--I/AAAAAAAAMkA/H_AWsQ_8k44/s564/DSCF0684.JPG

Then we walked back to the city centre.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-jtH102-BUiY/T3yyLpHD2dI/AAAAAAAAMlE/bO0hTKkouiA/s512/DSCF0712.JPG

And I had a tasty latte macchiato.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0lyjSX56f5c/T3yyMLVVU9I/AAAAAAAAMkg/svFGZBzqAgk/s600/DSCF0713.JPG

There was a park near the youth hostel and as it was still early, we explored it and played a bit on the playground. I tried to climb a climbing wall but wasn't successful.

Kaiserslautern, Germany - 3rd April 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

We slept very well at the youth hostel in Homburg and today we went to Kaiserslautern. No castles this time. First we visited the Japanese Garden which is a very beautiful and quiet place.

Heidelberg, Germany - 4th April 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

When we returned home from our trip, two small packages were waiting for us. We opened them and two new Toy Voyager guests happily said hi. The funny purple creature is Woozy and the cute little tiger is Tiger Lilly. I'm looking forward to spending a good time with them.

Heidelberg, Germany - 14th April 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

How are you doing? I'm fine. Today the whole gang of seven ToyVoyagers went on an excursion. We had a great and interesting day.

First we passed a school complex but as it was Saturday, there were no pupils around.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BdTu3xjZyDw/T4ncKoWPoiI/AAAAAAAAM8w/JFnWdpkFZIg/s600/DSCF1097.JPG

Then we went to the cemetary "Bergfriedhof" which was opened in 1844 and consists of a Christian and a Jewish part. It's quite a large area and we saw only a small part of it.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-g8RhY4epxP0/T4ncHzD9ICI/AAAAAAAAM8g/BRo6vndMI6U/s600/DSCF1100.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-uO_2MQLaqsE/T4ncJmgO9tI/AAAAAAAAM-E/MXvguYnYbWk/s512/DSCF1112.JPG

Here we're all sitting on the grave of the Jewish author Hilde Domin who was born in Cologne in 1909 and died in Heidelberg in 2006. In 2004 she became a honorary citizen of the town.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-FSyLgkaAkbg/T4ncLkXeXBI/AAAAAAAAM84/HL5sAp2F38s/s600/DSCF1114.JPG

After leaving the cemetary we walked about three hours through the forest.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-zly3jCEWKOk/T4ncNrZ0MQI/AAAAAAAAM-Q/DJFnkgUxhUo/s512/DSCF1122.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ex_-nqrcOx4/T4ncTj_EG9I/AAAAAAAAM-U/5Ok7XzQoBm4/s512/DSCF1139.JPG

We rested on this interesting table.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-bbTs0-w3Gh4/T4ncPzqTWEI/AAAAAAAAM9I/TFGeGsfyrSs/s600/DSCF1124.JPG

This totem pole was standing next to the eagle table so we actually felt a little like in the USA.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MMpsGqyWyGk/T4ncQYX8QsI/AAAAAAAAM-g/90ii7wDPzlg/s512/DSCF1132.JPG

We were quite tired of all that walking but as we had to do down to the city centre, anyway, to catch a bus back home, we decided to take a few photos at the castle which is situated about 80 m over the city in the mountains.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-yBtrlNciTnw/T4ncUgYg37I/AAAAAAAAM9k/0h5a1zOoJWE/s564/DSCF1145.JPG

This is one of the fountains in the castle's garden.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-pIeFFZRutBc/T4ncUclxY4I/AAAAAAAAM9g/F6FWgEIS-bQ/s600/DSCF1168.JPG

The view down to the city centre, the Old Bridge and the river Neckar is really stunning.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-6sY1fPxegT0/T4ncWuQ4nTI/AAAAAAAAM9w/FNdUiuhaiLQ/s564/DSCF1171.JPG

Heidelberg Castle was built in the early 13th century and was destroyed in the 17th and 18th century. Its remains and ruins are nowadays the city's main tourist attraction.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-LOCJpzUjhmw/T4ncX879qYI/AAAAAAAAM-Y/z5Xx9KKO4J0/s512/DSCF1188.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-qCHXLO_vxP8/T4ncYrBg0RI/AAAAAAAAM-M/ZcDJr3B2zfU/s563/DSCF1198.JPG

Bye-bye,
Králi

Mannheim, Germany - 26th April 2012

By: nuriayasmin

Dear Mum

I'm sorry you haven't heard from me for a while. I'm fine but nuriayasmin was busy. However, she told me that you found a new host for me and that I'm going to continue my journey in May. That's very exciting. Thank you very much, Mum.

Well, today we went to Mannheim again and took some photos of the water tower and the Friedrichsplatz with its fountains and flowers. A very beautiful place.

football field, Germany - 8th June 2012

By: Noisy

Today some boys and me went to the football field to kick a ball, when suddenly Noisy called Mooky. Somebody should come home to pick up our new guest. We all have waited for him quite a long time.
3*Euro has find his way to us. So we sent Minimax back home.
When the two little guys came back to the sports field again, we all welcomed 3*Euro and we played a match.
